GOTG Box Front

GOTG Box Back

The theme of the Marvel Collector Corps’ box for December 2015 was Guardians of the Galaxy. I am a huge fan of this movie and look forward to the sequel(s) with great anticipation. I’ve also been interested in subscribing to this box since the spring of 2015 when it was first released, but it was a combo of waiting for the right theme to come along and having a few bucks when it did that caused me to wait until the December box.

Believe it or not, this box is a great source of controversy, among both geek box subscribers and the huge Funko community of fans. Why? When the original idea for this series of boxes was released, it was stated that each box would contain an exclusive Pop and a shirt. Up until this box, every other box has delivered this original promise. This box contained neither.

Initially, I was also disappointed. I did change my mind when I saw the fun items. That combined with the movie, quality and value, had me keeping this box (and not flipping it on eBay, like many others). Since then the description of future boxes has been changed, but I would still say that this was marketed with a bait and switch mentality. Emails and other promo pics and videos leading up to the release, did strongly hint at conventional Pops being included.

Groot and Rocket Pop Bobblers Hanging Christmas Ornaments
approximately $20
Rocket Raccoon Pop Ornament

Groot Pop Ornament
Are these technically Pops? Well, they are Christmas ornaments for sure. However, they are also bobblehead Pops. They are smaller than typical Pops, but much larger than Pop mystery minis. If you sit them just so, they will support their own weight. I do not yet own the Christmas Groot Pop, but if someone did, I could see them getting a bit miffed at these. I would value this set at about $20, because I can often find full size Pops around the $10 price point and minis are usually up to around $8 a piece now. If you want this particular set, you can buy them from an Amazon seller for under $30 including shipping here.

Guardians of the Galaxy Knit Scarf
approximately $15
Xmas GOTG Selfie

GOTG Scarf Groot

GOTG Scarf Cast

This scarf is huge and incredibly well made. It definitely fits well with the Christmas theme of the box. It is very nice and bright. Robert Sunshine and I have taken turns wearing it over the holiday season. I would value it at about $15, because normally I would say, don’t pay more than $10 for a scarf, but this is knit and huge, so I could see it selling for $20. So, I split the difference. There is an Amazon seller who has it for $17.10 here.

Star-Lord Pop Mug
approximately $15
Starlord Funko Pop Mug

So, I do remember hearing that Funko would be releasing Pop mugs in the fall, but then I promptly forgot about it, as life got in the way. This is a nice, heavy duty mug, with great detailing. P.S. The smell went away right after I removed it from the box. It was actually the packaging that smelled. I still washed it prior to use though. I have not heated any beverages in it yet, so I don’t know how it stands up to heat yet. Pop Funko mugs are currently retailing for anywhere from $11-$20 online. This particular mug can be purchased on Amazon for $17.38 here. If you are a big fan of Star-Lord, but not Pops (say what?!?), this mug is also awesome. There is news that more GOTG mugs will be released this year.

Guardians of Infinity #1 Comic
MSRP $4.99
Guardians of Infinity Comic
I haven’t had a chance to read this comic yet, mainly, due to my current terrible attention span. However, Robert Sunshine did and he assures me that it’s good, but odd. Plus, it’s not really Christmas themed, that’s just for this variant cover, which is adorable. You can buy this issue for your Kindle on Amazon here.

Guardians of the Galaxy Pin and Badge
approximately $5 per piece
GOTG Badge Pin
These are what I would consider fluff or filler in most nerd boxes. They are cute but unless I start wearing some new type of style, they will probably go unused for at least a while. The $5 price point is just imho, as I wouldn’t pay more. I don’t see these on Amazon, after all they are exclusives. However, you can buy neat GOTG pins here and patches here.

Actual Price
about $31.95 (including shipping to the US)

Approximate Retail Value
$59.99

Would I recommend buying a Marvel Collector Corps box in the future? Yes, but only if you really love the franchise that they are featuring, because you may be very surprised by the contents. The next box’s theme is Deadpool (February 2016). I’ll be buying it…if I have a few bucks.

funko pops

I bought my first two Pops in 2014, but I didn’t really start collecting until this year. This is just a fun video that Robert Sunshine and I shot last month (Halloween costumes, ya see!) about where our collection was at then.

If you also love Pops, check this out!

What is Golden Tote?

Golden Tote is a monthly fashion service. Unlike most monthly bags, boxes or crates, you are only charged if you login and make a purchase. New styles are released (at least) monthly, though. You can purchase a $49 small tote, a $99 surprise tote or a $149 large tote. Shipping is free if you spend at least $149.

The cool thing about this service is that it’s curated. This means that if you choose the small tote, you can choose one tote item and then they pick a surprise item for you, based off of your style profile. For the $149 tote, you choose two items and then receive 3 or 4 more that are surprises. The $99 tote is 4 surprises.

Stylists also work off of your notes. So if you absolutely love maxis, let them know! You can even mention surprises by name and they will try to get you them, if they are available. You can also buy additional items from their boutique. If you buy them while getting a tote, then they may be offered at a great discount.

If you would like to join Golden Tote, click here. (Please note: This is a referral link. If you purchase through my link, then I get a $10 credit towards my purchase.) Now, these are just my personal favorites. There are many other styles available this month.

Totes go on sale on the first Monday of the month. So, August’s sale launches on Monday, August 3rd at 12PM EST. Hop on ASAP to get your size in your favorites.

Relaxed Midi Dress
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $46
Add-on price: $35

in blue, green, or pink

I wasn’t even sure that I was going to include this dress, at first. It’s a bit boxy for my shape. However, I love this shade of pink. Plus the exposed zipper back is so Bridget Fonda being cool in the 90s. I really wish it came in black as well. That would be amazeballs. I do love the length, yes it’s a midi, great for us shorties out there. It is 100% polyester and is lined to mid thigh. This is listed as being true to size and the chest measurements seem to confirm that: small 34″, medium 36″, and large 37″.

puella dest dr gr

Puella Destination Dress
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $78
Add-on price: $40

in green/white stripe, black, or mauve/olive stripe

I’m not usually in the OMG Puella crowd. However, the draping design in pink is fantabulous! It is 61% polyester, 33% rayon, and 6% spandex. It’s listed as running true to size. Measurements aren’t currently available, but going by the size that the model is wearing, I’d say that it runs a bit large.

island getaway dr blu

island getaway dr blu bk

island getaway dr red

Island Getaway Dress
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $52
Add-on price: $40

in red or teal

This is super cute in teal. This really would be cool for a cruise or the beach. I think it would be nice for just a dinner out, as well, though. This dress even has pockets. It is 94% rayon and 6% spandex. It’s listed as running true to size, but going by the model’s sizing and chest measurements I’d say that it runs small: small 26″, medium 28″, and large 29″. It must stretch a lot though.

daydream b dress blk

daydream b dress blue

Daydream Believer Dress
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $42
Add-on price: $35

in turquoise or black

Everything about this is awesome, from the style to the color selection to the Monkees’ inspired name! This lacy, sheer dress is 60% cotton and 40% polyester. It’s listed as true to size with a loose fit. Even considering that, it seems to run very large though. Chest measurements: small 41″, medium 44″, and large 46″.

work play blouse pink bk

work play bl taupe

Work or Play Blouse
Available:
In the $49 tote and $149 tote
Boutique price: $42
Add-on price: $35

in taupe or green

I’m just all about the color scheme of this green top. It is 97% polyester and 3% spandex. It’s listed as true to size and that sounds accurate with a slightly loose fit, going by the chest measurements: 37″ small, 39″ medium, and and 41″ large.

joggers

floral joggers blue back

floral joggers pink

Fun Floral Joggers
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $52
Add-on price: $35

in pink or navy

Okay, I definitely won’t be getting these because I haven’t found joggers to be flattering on me in the past and the placement of those pockets is not going to work for my awesome booty. However, I grew up wearing similar print leggings as a teen and still think they are cute, so if you can pull them off, get em! They are listed as 60% cotton, 35% polyester, and 5% spandex. It says that they are true to size, but going by the size that the models wore, I’d say they run on the smaller side.

paisley skirt

paisley skirt bl

Paisley Perfect Maxi Skirt
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $52
Add-on price: $40

in black multi or ivory multi

I just adore the design of this 100% rayon skirt, especially in the ivory. BTW-Yes, rayon! I find it so much cooler than polyester! Waist measurements are currently unavailable, but it’s listed as true to size. Going by the size that the models wore, I’d say that’s probably accurate.

pencil skirt bl

pencil skirt olive back

Perfect Pencil Skirt
Available:
In the $49 tote and $149 tote
Boutique price: $42
Add-on price: $35

in black or olive

This is incredibly simple, but nice. Even though this is a staple, I’m sure that some ladies still need one to round out there wardrobe. Plus, if you don’t, pick up the twist on this classic in olive. So pretty and mod. It is 53% cotton, 44% nylon, and 3% spandex. It’s listed as being true to size, but going by the models’ sizing, I’d say that it runs on the smaller side.

Ladylike Leopard Maxi Dress

Boutique price: $52
Add-on price: $40

in peach or aqua (I want both!)

I love this. It’s the item that I want the most this month. It features a cute back, tie waist and slit. It’s made of 100% polyester. This is supposed to run true to size. I guess that is with a relaxed fit though, as these are the measurements for the chest: 36″ small, 38″ medium and 40″ large.

tie dye Collage
Step Bright Up Dress
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $62
Add-on price: $40

in magenta or yellow

This maxi is just super fun. It is also 100% polyester. It’s listed as true to size, but seems to run smaller than the last dress. Chest measurements are: 30″ small, 32″ medium and 34″ large.

denim skirt collage
Classic Denim Skirt
Available:
In the $49 tote and $149 tote
Boutique price: $35
Add-on price: $30

This is really a simple, classic skirt, but that’s what’s so great about it. It’s made of 98% cotton and 2% spandex. It’s listed as being true to size, but I think that it runs large, based on the waist measurements: 29″ small, 31″ medium and 33″ large.

crossover Collage
Draped Crossover Blouse
Available:
In the $49 tote and $149 tote
Boutique: $35
Add-on: $30

This 100% rayon, draped top just catches my eye. It features a faux wrap front. It is listed as being true to size, but sounds a bit large. The small has a chest measurement of 40″.

coverup Collage
Lounging Poolside Swim Cover
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $48
Add-on price: $35

This is super sweet. All of the colors rock, but I’d go with the pink. This is 100% rayon. It’s said to run true to size, with a loose fit. The chest on the small measures 52″.

2 out of 5

project almanac cast

When I first started seeing trailers for Project Almanac, I was definitely curious. This time travel flick about selfish high schoolers looked pretty darn good. The trailer sucked you in with a group of friends using time travel for their own gain. Then it turns kind of creepy, when you see that time travel can, oops, screw things up.

Unfortunately, the movie definitely didn’t live up to the trailer for me. I thought maybe it was one of those instances with two many writers and/or directors, nope. One director and two writers. I’m currently exhausted and didn’t even feel like writing this review. I thought, I’ll find a review by someone with similar views and share that. I CAN’T FIND ONE! What? So, basically, others have issues with the science behind the film, but embraced what disappointed me. My views are a bit different.

Yes, there are definitely times that I thought, no, just no, that doesn’t make any science. Keep in mind, that I’m not scientifically minded. I’m pretty likely to not know if someone is using the correct piece when they are building something. I also don’t mind shutting off my mind to enjoy something fun, to an extent.

project almanac time machine

However, unlike others, I don’t believe that you need to see this JUST because it’s a time travel movie. As if, a dearth of movies means that poor ones should just exist to fill the void.

Have you seen the trailer? No?

Okay, now you have. You don’t even need to watch the movie. That is everything that you need to know and it doesn’t have to work, because it’s a trailer. You are supposed to want more.

What happens? Okay, a guy, his sister (a pretty, thin blonde who’s being bullied, *rolls eyes*), and his likeable friends build a time travel machine based on his late father’s plans. Later, a “hot”, popular girl joins their group and decides that she’s an integral part of it. IMHO, she is not.

At first, everything seems fine, the kids get money, popularity and sex. I’m not gonna lie, some of those scenes are amusing. They even get to see Imagine Dragons live. That’s super fun.

(from the same show this movie would have been filmed at)

Then the lead decides to start jumping around through time solo and disasters happen. If I were one of the kids, I would have rationalized the hell out of being at fault for huge disasters though, as one does. This is when the illogical time travel starts really bothering me. Now, it’s not just for fun. He has to fix things, but with the way that things have been going, I can’t buy what follows. Plus, even if I tried, it’s like he intentionally mucks things up.

I did enjoy his friends, but they didn’t get enough screen time. His love interest is annoying and the sister wasn’t onscreen long enough for me to form an opinion.

Yes, I’m impressed that this movie was filmed for around $3 million and earned about 10 times that much, but going into it, I didn’t know that. As a casual viewer that shouldn’t concern me. (Although, I’m sure producer Michael Bay is thrilled.) Another plus is that the film wasn’t overly long. Some found the fact that it’s set up as a found footage film to be a detractor. It slightly enhanced it for me, making the creepy scenes a bit creepier. Maybe, my biggest issue is that the lead becomes unlikable, but not annoying enough to completely hate. I like to have some strong feeling one way or another, when I’m watching someone’s story. I’m really only giving it 2 out of 5 stars for the initial premise and fun section of them just goofing around for personal gain.
