  2. Jewelry Review: Cutey Charm Bracelets

    March 22, 2012 by missemmamm

Last month the Cutey company contacted me and asked if I’d be interested in reviewing some jewelry from them. Cutey sent me two wonderful charm bracelets.

The blue bracelet is called Momus. Momus comes with either the choice of a tower or bell as the featured charm when you order it. I was sent the tower version. I’m thrilled about that because it’s definitely my favorite part of the bracelet. The tower is definitely very evocative of a British building. The bracelet also features some stars and stones. The bracelet is designed to appear similar to a vintage pice. I can definitely see that as you might think that it was bought on a long ago adventure in London.

The pink bracelet is called Aether. Aether is inspired by the God of the same name in mythology. It’s supposed to put you in a girly mood and it definitely does the job. Aether includes some stars and some fun, pink stones.

Bracelets come with a well designed brand tag in a plastic bag. If I were giving one as a gift I’d probably remove the bag and leave the tag. Each bracelet retails for $20.09. The length of the chain of each is 7.08″. These bracelets are made well. It should be noted that they seem to just fit around my wrists so measure your wrists before buying. I’ve always thought of my wrists as being fairly slender for my body so I was a bit surprised. They close with a clasp that is a bit tricky the first time that you use it. I’m not dexterous so I had someone close it for me.

You can purchase a variety of charm bracelets from Cutey at Cutey.co.uk. The current collection features a variety of choices so I think it would be easy to choose one for any woman or girl who loves jewelry.

  3. Candy Colored Dreams starring Dancing with the Stars’ Anna Trebunskaya

    March 20, 2012 by missemmamm

Tonight while watching the new season premiere of Dancing with the Stars I was drawn to Anna Trebunskaya’s pretty, colorful dress. Remembering that she has a penchant for trying out lively outfits I decided to highlight some of her candy infused looks from various seasons of DWTS. Plus I included pieces inspired by hers that you can try.

This post is for the current IFB Project #39: Pair Your Pastels.

  4. missemmamm’s Top 5 Spring 2012 Fashion Trends

    March 14, 2012 by missemmamm

Of course I had to share my favorite styles for this spring with you.

    Drop Waist Dresses

1920′s inspired drop waist dresses have been back in a big way lately. I think it’s pretty great that they were also around in the 80s and 90s. So now you can buy a handful of them in a variety of styles. I chose some classic, some modern, a couple that are 80s influenced and the fun Bridget Fondaesque 90s pick in the middle.

    Super Chunky

I believe these started coming back in a big way last fall but I couldn’t really get into them then because of the weather. Now I would love to bust out some fun, 90s style super chunky kicks. Any of these with a babydoll dress would be adorable. You could also amp up some of the more low key drop waist dresses above with a pair of these.

Just make sure that you can walk in the height that you choose. I know that I always think, the higher the better, but you don’t want to end up eating the sidewalk. In the 90s I saw a girl wearing those extremely high Japanese street style sneakers. While they were awesome she fell down repeatedly. It was bad, I was worried she’d break a leg.

    Statement Barrettes

Yes, this is a “me thing”. Lately I’ve been spotting eye catching barrettes and actually buying them to jazz up my unruly do. They are just plain fun. The above cost a bit more than I’d usually spend but I find them at discount stores and department stores all of the time. Just keep your eyes peeled. Etsy would probably be a good place to search for one of a kind barrettes.

    Maxi Caftans

Yep, I’ve really wanted to start collecting maxi caftans since I bought my first one by Rachel Zoe recently. It seems that caftans (or kaftans, if you prefer) were very popular in the 70s and then again in the 90s (especially dashikis). They are pretty timeless though.

Since it’s been unseasonably warm try to choose yours in a lighter fabric. Shorter caftans are probably more comfortable in the heat but I would feel like I’d just wandered away from a pool. Plus I don’t find them flattering to my legs as they seem to cut me off at an odd angle.

eBay and thrift stores are especially fun to scour for caftans.

    Sky High Wedges

It’s no secret that I frickin’ love shoes. These days I’m even more excited by sky high wedges than the usual beachy suspects. These would definitely look hot with a maxi caftan as well as your go to warm weather gear. Make sure that if your caftan is super long that you don’t trip in these babies (umm, not that I’d ever do that).

What will you ladies be sporting this season?

  5. Style File: Zoe Free

    March 9, 2012 by missemmamm

I had to take these at night so I did need to tinker with the exposure and effects a bit.

If you follow my fashion board on Pinterest then you may know that I was coveting this gorgeous Rachel Zoe Caftan for a while prior to actually buying it. It’s even more awesome in person than I’d expected.

Luxe Rachel Zoe Embroidered V-Neck Caftan-eBay, white satiny barrette-The Dollar Tree, blue necklace-Crystalline Dreams, oversize pink floral ring-Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, cream slip (no tag)-thrifted, Predictions boots-thrifted

I wore this when I went to watch Wanderlust recently. It’s so funny BTW, check out this post for my review. I’m also wearing it in the video. I think that it’s more flattering in photos than on camera though.

I may be channeling Mr. Burns in this one.

If you plan to get one in the future or other items from Zoe’s line for QVC I recommend checking out the comments for sizing info. This caftan ran very large. Some mentioned sizing down but others said that if you were busty (the commenter was a C, also my size) that you should go with your normal size. According to the chart I needed a medium so I ordered the cream caftan, also gorgeous, but even when I tied it as tight as possible it was still too large for me. I decided to exchange it for a small. Then an eBay seller had it half price in a XS (measurements were listed that sounded like they’d work for me). So I bought that and canceled the original order. The XS fits perfectly. Her line offers these in sizes XXS-1X. You’re definitely going to want to size down. It also comes in purple and teal as well as the black and cream. I still plan on getting the cream in the future.

I really adore this caftan. It’s the first caftan I’ve owned and now I want to collect them. It’s like a dress meets a nightgown. So it’s comfy and pretty. I know it’s immature but I feel like a princess in it. My sister said it reminds her of a geisha. I can see that in the pics.

I paired it with a long cream slip (you can skip it at home if you want but it’s a bit sweaty so I still wear one), my pretty necklace from Crystalline Dreams, a fun barrette, an oversize ring and some boots. Yes, I’ve been wearing my lovely caftan on a semi-regular basis since then. It’s fun out and about or on the couch.

  6. March 2012 Shoe Club Picks

    March 2, 2012 by missemmamm

Since I’m a member of those shoe of the month clubs I thought that it would be fun to browse through all of them and choose my favorites for the month of March. Some shoe of the month clubs will charge your card if you don’t pass on that month by a certain date (after you’ve made your first purchase) while others have dropped that requirement. So be aware of that.

    March 2012 Shoe Club Picks-Wedges

    WEDGES
The clubs are featuring some darling pastel and bright wedges this month that put me in mind of a sorbet.
    (from top right clockwise)
Nicci (ShoeDazzle)-These 6.5″ tall faux suede platforms come in orange, white & green (my favorite!)
Phebe (Sole Society)-These 7″ tall faux leather platforms come in mint (my favorite!), nude (a pinky nude) & coral.
Marguerite (JustFab)-These 6 1/2″ tall cork wedges come in yellow (my favorite!), nude & fuschia.

    JOIN
To join any of these clubs simply click the invite links below. Most of the clubs started out at a price point of almost $40 though ShoePrivee now has tiers (some of which are more expensive). Shoe Mint’s styles are almost $80 a pair because they use real animal skins (leather, suede, etc.)
Tip: If you become a member of a club and don’t purchase right away they may send you a discount later to entice you.
