This is for the IFB Project #21: What’s your Favorite Style Decade?. At first I wasn’t going to participate because my style isn’t really defined. I enjoy a lot of different things and am all over the place. It’s pretty obvious that I will always love 90’s dresses though.

So here’s a quick look back at some of my recent 90’s duds.

It mentions the 90’s as “Flannel, doc Martens, denim, grunge”, which don’t get me wrong, I like but I’m going with the more feminine bent. Plus I got sick of flannel (for the most part) in 1995 (when I had like 3 rotating flannel shirts).

I’m mentioning 90s dresses so I’m including the

New York & Company gray v-neck ribbed sweater-thrifted, Miley Cyrus & Max Azria black draped pocket knit skirt-Walmart, Bongo floral leggings-Kmart

(Second clearer picture is to show texture. I recently adjusted the settings on my camera, so hopefully there won’t be any more out of focus or Myspace style shots in the future.)

I wore this the day after I went to a Halloween party so I’d already had my hair parted to the side for my flapper costume. I decided to go with it and wear it like that again. It looked kind of ’80s.

I was excited to wear this new sweater that I had just bought. I’ve been coveting some fitted sweaters this fall so I decided to hit up a thrift store and dig until I found some. I succeeded in finding a black cardigan and this gray pullover. I paired it with my Bongo leggings, also seen here. Then I threw this Miley Cyrus & Max Azria skirt over it that I picked up on sale at Walmart a while ago. It’s more of an awkward wear for someone with thighs (it has draped pockets over the sides) but I don’t care about fashion rules & what not.

The current IFB Project is Channel Your Inner Superhero so this seems like a good time to talk about the Red Badger.

When I turned 25 I decided to have a costume birthday party. My sister and I actually convinced almost everyone to dress up. It was so much fun.

I created my own superhero called the Red Badger for the occasion. It started when I spotted some really cute red boyshort panties that tied in the back while shopping at a department store. They screamed superhero. At the time I considered underwear a viable outfit choice.

I paired them with one of my favorite bra by Jezebel and some red heels. Then I ran around getting accessories such as fabric (just tied around my neck) as a cape, a red mask, hair dye, red fishnets and a birthday pin. I would have been done but spotted a mustache in Party City and decided that the Red Badger was definitely a transsexual superhero. Everyone loved playing with the mustache including the guys which I found hilarious, since they could grow one.

I had a wardrobe change.

Brian Molko of Placebo in Velvet Goldmine

My sister created her own superhero called the Purple Peacock. She paired a cute tank & dress shorts with fishnets, boots, a purple top hat, feather boa and fancy mask. I do believe that she was heavily influenced by Brian Molko in Velvet Goldmine.

Timmy/his creation

Something incredibly neat was that my friend Timmy made and gifted me with this doll dressed as me.

black Merona Ultimate Tee-Target, oversized pink floral ring-2011 Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, Express gray textured mini skirt with slit-thrifted, footless argyle sweater tights

brown Nine West tweed bow front pumps-gift

I decided to wear this today because someone had recently given me these shoes. I love how people always pick the perfect gifts for me. When I saw them I knew I had to pair them with this skirt that I haven’t worn much. I added a basic tee (also seen here) and argyle sweater tights (seen here). Plus a really cute oversized ring that I snagged at this year’s Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival.

Coincidentally it’s International Suit Up Day. (I do believe this skirt is a less structured, more comfortable suit style). Yes, it is a How I Met Your Mother thing.

I felt a little Peggy Bundy (from the knees down) in this because because of the thick tights (almost leggings) with pumps.

(aka the post in which all of Pennsylvania stops reading this blog)

So this is the final post in my 30 for 30 challenge. Unfortunately I did not get to 30 outfits but that’s not really surprising, considering my life style. Most people have an epiphany when they do these. I mainly just realized that I need to buy some more basic tees and costume jewelry to round out my wardrobe. Plus I have been trying to actually wear some of my shoes (that I love to collect) and jazz outfits up with belts.

Believe it or not, wearing anything other than sweat pants and wife beaters in my town (it’s a shithole, this is the biggest attraction) is tantamount to basically asking people to give you shit for it. (It could also be because I don’t have 6 babies hanging off of, nor track marks on my arms).

The thing is that I’m not interesting in trying to conform. In fact, I never could but I’m not interested in being fucking boring anyway. I’ve lived in other small towns (unlike some people around here who have never left the state) and at least those other people had a sense of humor. Here they are defensive. It’s like “Don’t talk bad about my shithole, us assholes gotta stick together”. Well I’m not one of these assholes and I have no intention of every becoming one.

So from now on when I get shit I will be doing what I have been doing lately, standing up for myself, fists first if need be, (yes, I’m back to being 11 years old again) because I’m not into letting anyone, including these old blue haired biddies who hate everything about me-my figure, my clothing, my piercings, because all they know how to do is conform to the old lady hairstyle and act like catty bitches. This is on my mind because I got shit for the adorable 90s dress below, which I fucking love, FUCKING LOVE!

1970s FLORAL

Lady Blair floral dress-thrifted, white Candies-Gabriel Brothers

pink pearls-Kmart

I picked up this floral dress recently with a couple of other dresses and I really like it. It’s not something I’d usually think about wearing. It’s a little too pretty & soft but I really like it on. I was trying to figure out what jewelry to pair with it when I remembered these pink pearls that I bought a while back but always forget that I own (also seen in Photo Set: Burlesque). Then I dug up these Candies that I’ve had for years. They were much more comfortable than I thought. Although I did wear dirty, old flip flops to run into Walmart that day (so I could be faster) and I fit right in with all of the people who looked like they got dressed in the dark.

1990s FLORAL REVIVAL

California Concepts sunflower dress-eBay, green budda bracelet-gift

satin Steve Madden platforms-thrifted

I found this dress on eBay and am super in love with it. I swear I’ve seen this exact print in some 90s film but can’t recall which one. It also brings to mind Janeane Garafalo’s wardrobe in Reality Bites. I threw on some platforms, woot, & was off. I did get shit from some old lady (as mentioned above) in this outfit but I did loudly threaten so I think that she got the idea. (I also scared the waitress a little). Then I ran into a store for a tech problem & surprise, surprise the guy working there was very nice, cuz I’m pretty and there’s nothing wrong with that.

ALL YELLOW EVERYTHING

Harajuku Lovers This Love Is Serious tank top-eBay, Route 66 yellow shorts-Kmart, pink polka dot belt-thrifted, heart necklace-gift, yellow bubble bracelet-Dots

I have no idea what I did this day but I was really into wearing all yellow. The tank top was also seen here and the shoes were seen here.

Mossimo striped tank top-Target, yellow Route 66 shorts-Kmart, yellow bubble bracelet-Dots

I wore this one day when it was extremely hot (and I don’t have air conditioning in the room that I dress in, yay, sweaty). You can chalk up the odd/extreme pose due to my frustration at having to take more photos because the first ones were out of focus. (I really need to stop taking pictures in that room, the lighting is terrible). I wore my Pony shoes (seen here).
