Last month they were having the Pittsburgh Horror Film Festival Convention at the Monroeville Convention Center. When I found out that William Forsythe (Sheriff Wydell in The Devil’s Rejects) was going to be there I had to go just to meet him. The only other person that I was interested in meeting was Fred Williamson (From Dusk Til Dawn/Pittsburgh Steelers) since I had already met John Russo (writer of Night of the Living Dead and Return of the living Dead) a couple of times. The first time that I met him, I uh, mixed him up with (now) late Dan O’Bannon, oops, quell embarrassing.

Fearless by Jenny McCarthy for ShoeDazzle

I had planned to wear an awesome Lip Service OOAK sample dress I had bought a while back but I wasn’t feeling a dress that day so I threw on my stand by see thru, black tank tops and some new dressy shorts with fishnets and Jenny McCarthy’s Fearless heels from ShoeDazzle. However, I also took these awesome Paulo Corelli booties too because I wasn’t sure if my feet could handle the heels. When I got there and thought of walking through the painful (if you fall on it) parking lot and remembering how much my feet hurt and how many times I almost fell over while wearing my Esther platforms recently I chickened out and went in wearing the boots.

I needn’t have worried though as, despite it being the second day of this event, the place was a ghost town. (So I could have worn any shoes as I could have walked around there slow as fuck). I have been there before for previous small conventions but those had been busier. There weren’t even many vendors set up and the only celebrities I spied were John Martino, and luckily(!), William Forsythe. There was a woman chatting him up about John Wayne Gacy since he had recently played him in Dear Mr. Gacy. I was glad because she was able to take a picture of us for me and I did the same in return. Plus he didn’t even charge me, which was awesome.

Then I did a couple of laps around the place to check out the dealer’s tables but they were scarce. I did manage to buy a DVD called The Italian Zombie Movie Parts 1 & 2 for $5. The guy (director/actor, IDK?) who sold it to me told me that they screened it the previous night. I sort of got the impression that the audience hadn’t been big that night either so maybe it was slow the whole weekend. I did read a review a few days later by a girl who said that it was packed when she was there but she didn’t include any photos so I remain skeptical. I haven’t had a chance to watch it yet but it looks fun. I also ran into the woman from Forsythe’s table again (not surprising since there were so few people there) and she told me that I looked like Reese Witherspoon and that it was a compliment. It was nice, not accurate, but I’ll take it, xd. Before I left I snagged a picture with a guy who had come in Ghostbusters gear. I heard him telling the chick who was selling tickets that his friends were supposed to show up in costume too but didn’t. That bites.

Since I am a big fan of The Devil’s Rejects I have gotten pictures with a lot of the cast at previous Horrorfind Weekend conventions. Ken Foree gets his own collage because he is really fun, always remembered and chatted with us.

I had also found out that later that day a nearby church was having a Strawberry Festival. That sounded yummy so I hurried up after I returned home from the horror convention, changed and spent a few bucks on a yummy cake with strawberries and a slab of ice cream on top. Plus I bought chocolate covered strawberries for us to eat later. This outfit was just thrown together (I’ve worn this top a lot too), mainly to showcase the yummy strawberries!

Of course a Strawberry Festival reminded me of To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar so I had to watch that the night before.

John Leguizamo

So while I was watching that I remembered that I used to have the ballerina dress that John Leguizamo wore in the film since I’ve sporadically been an eBay seller over the years. So I tweeted something like “I know I used to be as thin as @JohnLeguizamo in #ToWongFoo cuz I used to own that dress, xd”. because I thought that it was funny. I’ve had a lot of celebrities respond but I didn’t expect him to since he’s been performing his one man show on Broadway, Ghetto Klown. However the next morning he tweeted me the following reply back. It was super cool because I’ve been a fan of his for a long time, (Super Mario Bros. forever!)

Welcome to July readers!

Hopefully I’m not biting off more than I can chew here but I’ve been full of ideas lately (to give you an idea, 1/2 the posts in my dashboard are drafts). I had already decided that I wanted July to be 90s Month, plus I’ve been getting into watching/reading more scifi stuff and I’ve decided to participate in Kendie Everyday’s 30 for 30. Now this is going to amount to a ton of posts this month but don’t worry if none of these subjects interest you. I will still be blogging about additional topics, including more Netflix Streaming posts and a couple of new Photo Sets.

90s Month

1996

90s Month will feature a bunch of posts on things that I loved about the 90s including movies, fashion and music. If you would like to participate and write a 90s post on your own blog during July just leave a comment on 1 of my 90s posts. If I get at least a few of those I will feature them at some time during the month. I know, I know, you’re thinking, “Uh, Mary, isn’t it always 90s Month on here?”. Shut up! But seriously, I do realize that I reference the 90s a lot because it was fun.

Scifi Month

2032

I have gotten into scifi films and books lately. Plus the DVDTalk forum does an Annual Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge that I haven’t participated in during the past so this seems like a great time to give that a try. These challenges are basically about trying to watch as many films/TV shows pertaining to a certain genre in a certain amount of time. My list is here. It isn’t complete yet. I will not be mentioning everything on it on this blog so feel free to check it out.

30 for 30

If you don't love boots we probably can't be friends.

The 30 for 30 challenge is a great challenge that many women have been doing for a while. You basically pick 30 items out of your wardrobe and during the time that you choose to allot to yourself you use them to make 30 outfits. I haven’t done this in the past but the rules are much simpler this time, which is great because I’ve always had to follow my own rules. I can’t be hemmed in to choose all of my pieces a month before I wear them but I’m going to do my own version of this. My main aim is to try to wear outfits instead of just throwing on my comfy cargoes and men’s graphic tees all of the time. This is very easy for me to do since I am a recluse. However everyone knows that you are likely to cheer yourself up a little when you like or are having fun with what you are wearing. I will not be including shoes in the number of items because they are my favorite thing and I have so many that I love. I have already started wearing these outfits and should have my first post in the series up soon. I’ll post likely be doing cumulative posts for this about once a week. You can find links to all of the current remixers on Kendi’s site here. My previous Style File posts are here.

The idea here was to do a red, white and blue outfit. I wasn’t going to do this because I lack much red clothing (I don’t think that it flatters my coloring) and had already done this similar Style File post last month, except that one was red, white and green instead of red, white and blue. However when I bought these super cute star flip flops recently I knew that I had to try to put an outfit together.

I feel the need to point out that I am aware that the exposure on these photos sucks but I do have the terrible Pennsylvania weather to blame for that. We only get about 59 sunny days per year. I did try to lighten them as much as I could to show the clothes. I wear this tank top a lot during the summer. In fact, you can go see 2 past outfits that I wore it with here and here.

As for wear-ability, the last time that I wore this skirt I wore leggings under it. Apparently when you wear it like this you get sweaty and feel like you are wearing a trash bag as a skirt. Also it was the first time that I wore these flip flops and I was squeaking while walking through a store (I sounded like a broken grocery cart), no bueno. So I probably will wear those items mainly around my backyard in the future if we’re having a cookout/swimming or whatever.

I only wore this medal at my house for fun for this pic. My mother won it recently at the Senior Games.

Point pink bubble dress-eBay, pink scarf-Fashion Bug, Esther floral platforms-ShoeDazzle

My sister visited for my birthday weekend at the end of May. We basically just hung out and went to see The Hangover 2. The scarf/hair were her idea for fun. She is a hairstylist so she did it in a fancy braid. I did not wear that scarf like a super hero but I think that pic is funny. I bought this dress last summer but just never got around to wearing it. My sister took these which is why I had a hard time not making a stupid face and why they are from different angles than normal.

Esther floral platforms-ShoeDazzle

I bought these really awesome Esther floral platforms from ShoeDazzle not long ago and had to wear them. They are usually out of this style but the similar looking Anastasia is often in stock.

I'm really fuckin old. Yummy.

I really don’t care about candles on a cake but since others insisted but didn’t remember to buy an 8 (I turned 28) and I wasn’t putting 29 I did this for fun. I had to try the new Target Exclusive Ben & Jerry’s Volun-Tiramisu flavor ice cream. It was good but my current favorite is still Berry Voluntary.

"What? I stand like this naturally"

So then my sister threw on this scarf and posed for fun. I tried to get her to wear it out (cuz I never wear scarves & felt odd) but she declined.

I didn’t do anything particularly interesting yesterday but it was Cinco de Mayo and you know how I love any excuse to dress differently. I decided to wear the colors of the Mexican flag, green, white and red. My only challenges were my lack of red clothing and trying to avoid looking like I was dressed for Christmas. I spotted this white American Apparel skirt in my closet that I got super cheap from Rue La La last year when the American Apparel company started having trouble. Then the rest of the outfit came to me easily. The second photo shows the actual colors. The 1st I fiddled with for fun.
