floral dress-Liberty of London for Target, Lower Eastside butterfly cowboy boots-Payless, faux leather brown bomber jacket-Dots, Jaclyn Smith sunhat-Kmart, wide woven belt-Walmart

If you’ve been reading my tweets then you probably know that my mind is already in the Southwest and that I’ve been wanting to wear floral dresses and cowboy boots. They might even become my new uniform. Right now I only have these cowboy boots that I bought a few years ago when the butterfly look was in style. I’ve barely worn them because there never really seems to be an appropriate time. So, uh screw that, I guess that time is now. I paired them with this Liberty of London For Target dress that I picked up on sale last summer. I wanted one as soon I saw the collection in the store but didn’t want to shell out $30 since I wasn’t sure I’d ever get around to wearing it. A couple of weeks later they dropped to $20 but I was hoping for $15 or less so I figured I was out of luck. Then about a month after that I noticed that one was left on the clearance rack and it was $7 so I grabbed that baby up. It’s in my usual size but these run large so even though I hate belts, I tied the waist as tight as possible and slapped one on so I’d have shape.

I wanted to pick up a sunhat last summer but didn’t get around to it. I looked for one at Target recently but came up short so I went out for breakfast hatless. Luckily afterward I stopped at Kmart for some shoe insoles and saw that they had a bunch of hats on sale. I picked up a sunhat and a cowgirl hat. There aren’t any pictures of me in the cowgirl hat because the weather here is so insane that the 1st half of my pictures came out so brightly overexposed that I couldn’t salvage them. Then the sun moved and the rest were a little too dark but luckily I was able to tweak those. I definitely plan on picking up some more cowboy boots for this summer, most will probably be of the ankle bootie variety though.

And yes, that brown bomber jacket is very similar to the black one that I wear ad nauseum. I love that style. I have another in teal.

I spotted this in the bathroom at the restaurant & thought it was neat.

I look mad because she had trouble with my camera phone.

Yes, these pics are super old. They are from last fall but literally the day I went to post them (which was within a week of taking them) it was already frigid outside so I felt stupid about posting them then. Since it’s now finally starting to warm up I figured they would be Spring appropriate.

Last year I saw a trailer for Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts and thought that it looked awesome. I thought it might be the type of inspiring travel film that Under the Tuscan Sun is. Since it was based on a book I ran out and bought the book. However I was not impressed by it. I feel that Elizabeth Gilbert doesn’t really come off as likable or ahem, human, as I’d expected.

Since I’d hyped it in my head I still wanted to go watch the movie even though the book didn’t live up to my expectations. The film is actually very true to the book, which isn’t a good thing to me. Roberts has always seemed to have that closed off thing down so she’s actually perfect to play Gilbert. I was immensely disappointed by the film not showcasing more locations. It was shot on location in Italy but ignored the vistas.

I made a day out of going. I talked my mother into going with me even though she’s not a movie person. I wore a really cute floral, bubble hem dress that I’d bought the week before from Burlington Coat Factory. Plus I figured since it was an eating movie we’d go eat after but the (now defunct) pizza buffet was only open for lunch, so we ate first. That day was the best service we ever got at that place too. Then we watched the flick. Afterward we hit up Burlington Coat Factory. I was hoping to find another really cute dress but none of them really appealed to me even though they were very colorful.

It was a nice day even though the movie wasn’t what I’d hoped for. P.S. My sister loves the film though so I guess it’s up some people’s alleys. Also Under the Tuscan Sun is also based on a book but I haven’t been able to get through it because it is way different from the film.

So you’re probably wondering about the type of person who uses Charlie Sheen as a style inspiration.

On Charlie Sheen
I’ve been having a bad month. The first week of the month I was mad at myself for not being able to get enough money together to go somewhere (which isn’t surprising since I do not earn much no matter how many hours I work) & was feeling pretty self destructive. However that same week Charlie Sheen totally stole my thunder. He just burst onto the scene with (mostly) nonsensical catch phrases & anger (um, over earning about $48 million per year by getting to act like himself on TV, sounds tough). Most people watched it like a car wreck while teens were all over Sheen like he was an old school rock star. While he appeared to be on a lot of drugs he still said he wasn’t. That is probably the only problem I had with the whole thing. Uh & putting a bunch of people out of work on Two and A Half Men. If you follow me on twitter you probably know that I have mixed feelings about Sheen. I have no problem with someone who wants to party but I do have a problem with physical abuse against women. If you watched his interview though you will notice that he actually made a couple of good points. Like, yeah some people probably are jealous of him & why would you want to go to Bible thumping rehab & say that you are worthless? He even mentioned that people like to put people who are out there on spirit crushing antidepressants. Of course, all of that was mixed in with phrases like “tiger’s blood”, “adonis DNA” & “winning”. I don’t have an answer to the how/what/why of Sheen (I also don’t go looking for unicorns) but I would advise against buying tickets to any of his “shows” because crackheads aren’t exactly trustworthy when it comes to keeping appointments.

On My Pain

Okay, so none of that explains my outfit. A couple of weeks ago I was upset and out and about trying to clear my head. At that time I tried to move something way too heavy (big mistake, huge) and I pulled something in my back, arms & hands. This probably wasn’t helped by the fact that I don’t really listen to or care about my body so I still worked 10 hours the next day & then exercised on my extremely old upright bike that always hurts your back when you use it. This means that I was in really bad pain for basically the last couple of weeks but tried to ignore it in the beginning & eventually had to just lay on my back & do nothing for a few days (plus some home remedies) so that I’m now feeling a bit better.

channeling MJ/real pain

The Outfit
About a week ago I was still trying to work & one night when I was up delirious with pain I saw Sheen’s new “Duh, Winning” shirt on his site for sale. Maybe usually I would just be like, okay I kind of want that but move on. But it also hit me that it was just 2 words written on a tee. So the next day I forced myself to take a really slow walk and thought I’d make my own out of an old worn men’s v-neck tee that I’ve had forever to wear that day. I used a regular black Sharpie marker because I was impatient and that’s all that I had. However I would recommend doing this with a fabric marker (they are super easy to use) because something written in Sharpie may fade, bleed or rub off on other clothing. I wasn’t really worried about it because it was a spur of the moment thing and I probably won’t be wearing it often anyway. I had a little trouble writing the words legibly on the tee because my hands were inflamed but anyone else (and me on a normal day) could probably do this easily. I figured I’d throw on the awesome Eugenia Kim fedora that I bought last year. In case you haven’t noticed Charlie wears a lot of fedoras. Since the tee was threadbare I knew that my bra would show. So I chose a houndstooth bra since I thought that it went with the old guy vibe. Of course it’s one of the many print/color variations of the Joe Boxer balconette bra from Kmart that I wear all of the time. Seriously it’s like the best style ever, no padding, underwire, lift, cute colors/prints & only $10.99 (but like 1/2 of the time they have them on sale buy one get one 1/2 off). I topped that off with a hoodie & my favorite jacket that I wear all of the time. Plus my current favorite peach & orange lipstick and gloss. Oh & don’t forget to slather on the black eyeshadow since it will help you look even more seedy.

I love this lipstick

I imagine this is what Sheen looks like when communicating with aliens or yelling about his billions ("I hate you universe, stop throwing money at me!")

My sister and I always get together in October to visit Halloween attractions because it’s our favorite holiday. Last October we went to Rich’s Fright Farm the first night she visited and then out to a club (not scary, I know), but then the next day we weren’t quite up for hitting up Kennywood’s Phantom Fright Nights because it was super chilly. So we decided to check out the closest Dave & Buster’s for the 1st time. We had been to one in Baltimore before but not PA. The evening didn’t start out well as I fell outside of the place & tore up my leg a little and then there was a commotion in the kitchen so our dinner took forever (so they comped our appetizers, score) but of course, the games were awesome. My favorite game was this awesome old MoCap Boxing machine. So fun and it said you burned like a billion calories in about 3 minutes. If I had a lot of money I would so buy one for my house. Other games that I loved playing were Resident Evil (they had like 3 versions), water race, skee-ball (where everyone tries to steal your tickets) and basketball. We also enjoyed an alcoholic Snow Cone.

I loved this ‘dress’ which was actually more like a tunic (as everyone kept reminding me) that I bought on sale from ideeli (yep, 1 of the many designer sale sites I buy from). Of course because it was short I paired it with some zipper leggings, chunky heels and an awesome handmade blue & purple leaf necklace that I bought at the Renaissance Festival . I was also really into wearing my Countessa Flourescent lipstick from Lime Crime at the time.

Since I loved this game so much I was trying to film my sister playing it but a real douche canoe interrupted me. That’s why it’s so short.

On Christmas I wore this really cool, very long vintage polyester dress I bought on eBay. It’s from the ’70s & has a really cool ruched chest. As with my last vintage dress it fit well everywhere except my chest, so I had to wear a sports bra again. Since it was so long I paired it with some wedges so it wouldn’t drag on the floor. I also added some cheap costume jewelry, a wooden necklace & plastic bubble bracelet. Plus my sister bought me these really cool elephant earrings because I had told her I rode an elephant earlier in the year. Christmas was pretty nice. Nothing out of the ordinary happened. We just ate, opened presents, sang carols and wore elf hats & reindeer antlers.
