april box

Please watch my above unboxing video. In addition, you can check out the below photos, links and additional info. This month’s box was quite spectacular.

fantasy mag
Loot Crate April 2015 Fantasy Pin
approximately $1
Yes, that value is made up, but I just feel that based on my experience this pinbacks are usually priced around there. This is a neat addition to the set of Loot Crate pins I’m slowly starting to collect.

me dnd tee
Dungeons & Dragons T-Shirt
from dndmerch.com
approximately $12
This particular tee was manufactured by the company Wizards of the Coast. They have many Dungeons & Dragons tees for sale here, starting at $14.95. Their Zazzle store doesn’t feature the exact tee in this box though. I’m going to base the price off of dndmerch.com’s site since theirs is more accurate to the design.

dragon tie
Red & Gold Dragon Bow Tie
from Black Tie Geek
approximate value $14
Their site isn’t up yet. A tie by them that was previously featured in a Loot Crate goes for around $14 on Amazon. This is fun. Not a frequently wearable item, but cool for every once in a while.

crown
Inflateable Crown
from Loot Crate Labs
approximately $1
I’m basing the above price on buying a dozen from Amazon. This is silly and would be fun to wear around at a renaissance festival or house party when you get in your cups.

princess bride cards
The Princess Bride Playing Cards
from Albino Dragon
$14.99
The main characters from the film are prominently illustrated on this set. I don’t think a deck of cards should cost almost $15, but if you were going to buy this anyway, then these are basically almost equal to the price of the entire box. They are very nice cards though. I just wouldn’t personally pay more than $10 for them.

potter tag
Harry Potter 9 3/4 Bag Tag
from Bioworld
$11.76
In the video, I said this would probably sell for around $10, I was so close. This is a very nice, large PVC luggage tag. I’m not even a Potterhead and I appreciate how well made it is. Definitely worth the retail price.

got usb
Game of Thrones Stark Sigil USB Drive
from CustomUSB
approximately $17
This is a 4GB drive. It was manufactured exclusively for Loot Crate. The shinier 8GB drive that is from the same company retails for about $34, so I’m giving this one a value of half of that price. In the video above, I mention that USB drives typically go for around $8-$12 around here. However, this is a themed drive, so it would cost more. This is one of my favorite items in the box!

got magnets
Game of Thrones House Sigil Magnet Set
from Dark Horse
approximately $9.99
The above GOT magnet set is very similar to this one, but includes 3 more magnets. My guess at a price of these in the video was $6, so if you factor in the extra magnets in the set above, I’m probably pretty spot on. I’m going to leave it at $9.99 though, because this particular set isn’t currently listed online. I really like these. I’m not super into magnets at this point in my life, but they are definitely fun. You can’t go wrong with anything Game of Thrones related when it comes to me.

Actual Price
$19.95

Approximate Retail Value
$81.74

I’d definitely recommend this month’s Loot Crate. Everything was up my alley. It’s a great monetary value and a great value for me because I actually like the items.

As you may recall, I’m a huge fan of the annual Philadelphia Wizard World Comic Con. This year, I’m as excited as ever. The wonderfully fun to watch stars of the CW’s Arrow are on the guest list. Yes, both Arrow (Stephen Amell) and Laurel herself (Katie Cassidy) will be appearing!

oliver queen makeup

If you haven’t checked out Arrow yet, I’d recommend doing so ASAP. This superhero show does get suspenseful, but isn’t always serious. You gotta love a show in which multiple characters know the lead’s secret identity, which is mainly covered by green eye makeup.

oliver queen eyes

Amell is able to portray Oliver Queen skillfully in both the present and in flashbacks, when he was still a spoiled rich boy. Not to worry, he’s not really like that anymore, due to “5 YEARS ON THE ISLAND!” Oliver, aka the Arrow, aka the Hood is one hell of a vigilante. His parkour game is on point.

laurel

Katie Cassidy plays attorney Laurel Lance. She’s one tough cookie. Of course, Oliver and Laurel have a history. It’s awesome to be able to watch Ms. Cassidy regularly. I’ve been a fan of hers since her role in the Black Christmas remake.

Getting the chance to meet two of the fab stars of Arrow is definitely one of my top reasons for attending the Philly Wizard World show this year. It could only get better if Diggle were enlisted.

Warning: This is a bit spoilery.

Luckily Facebook spies on all of us. That sounds like I’m leading up to a joke or a big brother rant, but no, really, in this case, it’s a good thing. FB must have noticed that I’ve liked Sex and the City pages in the past and alerted me to the fact that this new show is coming out. Well, when I saw the lead actress from Bunheads is the star, I jumped all over that.

You may not be aware of Bunheads, but I went through a heavy duty ballet phase last year. It was a series about a dancer from Vegas who ended up teaching ballet in a small town. The lead (Sutton Foster) is fantastic.

The fairly silly premise of Younger is about a woman in her 40s passing herself off as woman in her 20s to get a new job. It was then that I noticed that Hilary Duff costars. Plus, it’s from Darren Starr (Sex and the City). I initially thought it’d be a CW show actually, because of his now defunct the Carrie Diaries.

Liza (Sutton Foster) is a 40 year old mom whose daughter has finally grown up and gone off on her own. She’s also newly divorced. This means that she is ready to jump back into her career in publishing.

The problem? It’s been like 15 years. Those of you who have tried to get a job after any sort of gap in your resume knows this can be a problem. It doesn’t help that her interviewers are often millenials who discriminate against her, right in front of her, incredibly non-tactfully.

younger intro

I must also mention that she’s selling her home and has the WORST realtor ever! Seriously. “Either someone buys this place by next week or it goes to the bank.” WTF?

younger dude

To take her mind off of her woes, her bf (Debi Mazar, luv!) goes out for drinks with her. The totally hot young dude above (Nico Tortella) mistakes her for 26 years old. She plays along.

younger makeover montage
“Do I really wanna trade my dignity, wisdom and self respect for another chance at my 20s?”
“Yes, you do”

This leads to a wonderful MAKEOVER MONTAGE!!!. Yes, the actual idea of posing as a 26 year old so she can get her foot in the door somewhere. As Mazar says, “You were getting carded until you were 30”. Duff costars as her friend and co-worker (a bit higher up in the company and already offering her help up the line). Due to her age and well, of course, the show is set in NYC, she’s a bit blunt, “I didn’t mean to shit in your Cheerios”.

I am IN LOVE with this show so far. Yes, I know it’s just the pilot. Please, let it continue in this vein. Sutton’s boss (Miriam Shor) is a biatch, but she doesn’t deserve the age jokes from Duff, so yeah, that can be addressed. Plus Sutton is already trying to help Duff be more aggressive in her personal. Oh yeah, and there’s the whole lying to the new hottie thing. So much that can be done with this!

I basically feel like this show was created for me. I think that the best shows feel like that, highly personal. However, I am behind in life, so to say. Plus I tend to hang out with or go do activities that younger people do. So, now in my early thirties, I have been mistaken for being in my early 20s. I’ve never felt so on point with a show regarding age before. That goes for everything, pop culture, slang, mating habits, and jobs, of course.

Please let this one go far and be amazing!

The series is set to premiere on TV Land on March 31st.

sex tape movie poster

Early this year I caught the first Sex Tape trailer. I knew from the moment I started watching that I had to see it upon release. It seems like it’s taken forever to come out. Okay, that’s probably just me.

Sex Tape is about a married couple (Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel) who make a sex tape to spice things up. In these tech heavy times though things like this tend to get out quickly.

Let’s get the looks thing out of the way. This is a movie (albeit a comedy) with nudity and simulated sex so it’s not like I’m going to ignore what they look like. The last time we saw Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel together was in the hilariously awesome Bad Teacher. At that time I was super hot for Segel. Since then he’s gone super extreme with losing weight. His drawn face combined with his receding hairline is a bummer. Good news for Diaz fans though, she’s lookin’ good. I just watched her in The Other Woman, in which she was sporting some bad collagen and I’m guessing other plastic surgery don’t s. She’s looking much more natural here. And yes you do get to see her strut around in her undies, so for everyone who enjoyed that scene in Charlie’s Angels you’re in for a treat.

sex tape movie lowe

So, plot? It wasn’t quite what I thought it’d be. The flick opens with Diaz narrating for her mommy blog. Eek. Okay, I have read some, but this didn’t take my fancy. One subplot is that she’s trying to sell her blog to some big corporation headed by Rob Lowe. I did enjoy the Lowe scenes. At first he just seems to be doing his overly nice Parks and Recreation character but later it gets weird and fun.

sex tape movie early sex

Segel is somewhere up the line of the radio DJ hierarchy, which I am not familiar enough with to completely explain to you. Seems like a decent, fun job though. Between his job, her blog and MAINLY, their two children, they never have time to get busy. We know that it hasn’t always been like this since we do get a fun flashback of all of their early boning times back in college. I kind of think Diaz almost pulls off looking college age with her young do.

The movie starts out strained. I suppose it’s since that’s how they are feeling but it’s not so fun, aside from the screwing montage. Eventually (okay, it’s not even a long movie, but I’m impatient), we get to the night that they get down to business.

sex tape movie book

After many funny, failed attempts at getting busy, Segel even says “it’s like we forgot how to have sex”, (even his kissing technique seems to need a lot of work in this scene). Diaz finally gets a great idea! Making their own porn, of course. This is super easy since Segel always has a surplus of iPads due to his hazy job. I did enjoy their preparation, tequila and a vague porn plot, doing the entire Joy of Sex.

The rest of the movie is pretty what you’d expect from the commercials. They run around trying to stop others from seeing their sex tape and end up getting into some fairly funny hi jinx. Rob Corddry and Ellie Kemper (both of whom I’m big fans of) costar as their married couple friends. Neither gets that much to do but both are amusing, as usual. I was surprised by some tech stuff in the flick but I don’t want to give it away. There’s also an awesome cameo.

I must admit that I am biased when it comes to this movie. I could picture something like this happening to me in my 40s. There’s even stuff I happen to be familiar with in the movie-3 hour sex sessions, a super long jelly dildo (I didn’t know any better) and YouPorn. So yeah, I’m kind of the target audience here.

Despite that fact it didn’t blow me away. I did enjoy it and it might be funnier on a second viewing but I’m not sure. I’d recommend seeing it during a cheap matinee or waiting for it to hit VOD and DVD.

I do not watch many children’s films because I am not a parent. When I do, I prefer them to be like this one, without any cursing, double entendres or a bunch of pop culture references. This film succeeds on all counts. The only thing I would make sure to make clear to children is not to feed dogs candy or cookies. Most importantly it features adorable puppies and a Christmas story.

It’s your basic “We need to save Christmas story” but with a twist, told from the perspective of puppies. The protagonist is Puppy Paws, soon to be successor to his father Santa Paws. Santa Paws is Santa’s (George Wendt) right hand dog. Puppy Paws is bored with North Pole life and decides to see how normal puppies live.

These “normal puppies” are the infamous Buddies. I’ve only seen one other of these series of films (so far), the not as good but still adorable Space Buddies. However, if you’ve never seen any of them you still get a brief introduction to the characters. They are Budderball (likes to eat), Mudbud (likes to get dirty), B-Dawg (enjoys rap and dancing) and Rosebud (fashionista). Human co-stars include Christopher Lloyd as the evil dog catcher and Danny Woodburn (Seinfeld) as an Elf.

Puppy Paws tries to fit in and make friends but stirs up trouble. Of course Puppy Paws learns that the true meaning of Christmas isn’t about toys. I smiled a lot and even laughed out loud at some of the puppies antics.

Many movies tend to drag in the middle, including the aforementioned Space Buddies but this one was pretty entertaining all the way through. I could be nitpicky and mention that the film didn’t include enough reindeer screen time and that I’m not sure of Wendt as Santa. Why complain about an awesome holiday movie though? The film clocks in at 88 minutes so if it isn’t your thing, you won’t be bored for too long.

You can buy it from Amazon.com on DVD or Blu-ray, the super cute Santa Buddies Gift Set (DVD + Five Plush Buddies) or as a part of the Buddies DVD 4-Pack (Air Buddies, Snow Buddies, Space Buddies, Santa Buddies).
