I am very excited about Sex and the City 2 coming out on Thursday. So I’ve decided that this week will be Sex and the City Week here. I will be posting a new SATC post everyday.

You may want to rewatch SATC prior to the film’s release but not have time to marathon the whole series. These are my favorite episodes. I didn’t choose them to gel the storyline together. It’s more about fun, my M.O. I have chosen less episodes from seasons 1 and 5 because those were shorter. It was very hard to narrow season 2 down. It includes many excellent episodes so you may want to watch it from start to finish if you have time. I, unlike many, was a big fan of the LA episodes. I’m not usually one for spoilers but this show’s been out for years. If you’ve never seen it this is a spoiler land mine. Yes, I have referenced things about myself as they relate to certain episodes because they happened to effect me due to those events. For full info on all episodes of the series I recommend going here.

SEASON 1

Season 1: Episode 4 “Valley of the Twenty-Something Guys”
“What was that?” “A preview”
“Sir, we’re talking up the butt. A cigarette is in order.

Photobucket

Carrie, Samantha and Miranda try dating guys in their 20s. Even in this early episode you can see that Big and Carrie were gonna have some drama. Some highlights of this episode are Timothy Olyphant guest starring as Carrie’s young lover and the classic Charlotte up the butt taxi scene.

Season 1: Episode 6 “Secret Sex”
Photobucket
Carrie wears the “naked dress” which leads her to have sex with Big on their first official date.

Season 1: Episode 9 “The Turtle and the Hare”
Samantha inexplicably dates and tries to change a man. It seemed very out of character but interesting. Charlotte gets her first sex toy, “The Rabbit”.

SEASON 2

Season 2: Episode 1 “Take me out to the Ballgame”
“Miranda was a huge fan of the Yankees. I was a huge fan of being anywhere you could smoke and drink at two in the afternoon without judgment.”
“How does it happen that four such smart women have nothing to talk about but boyfriends? It’s like seventh grade with bank accounts!”

Photobucket

Carrie happily rebounds from her break up with Big by dating “The New Yankee”. All seems well until she cries in his mouth. Miranda is mad at Carrie for obsessing about her break up until she also runs into her ex.

Season 2: Episode 4
“They Shoot Single People, don’t They?”

Photobucket
Carrie gets made a fool of at a magazine shoot and is thrown for a loop. Miranda tries to teach an ex how to give her the big O. Both Bradley Cooper and Mark Feuerstein (or as I still call him “Conrad Bloom”) guest star.

Season 2: Episode 12 “La Douleur Exquise!”
“have another drink, woman”
Photobucket

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvTDA6QF2rI

Samantha does the publicity for a new S&M club. Big springs the news that he may be moving to Paris on Carrie. At first she is angry but then tries to be supportive. They break up. Charlotte gets free shoes from a cashier with a shoe fetish. Miranda has sex with a guy who likes to have sex like it’s “Outward Bound”. Stanford has an underwear fetish. He goes out to meet “BigTool4U” at an underwear party. Will Arnett guest stars.

Season 2: Episode 17 “Twenty-Something Girls vs. Thirty-Something Women”
Photobucket
The group head to the Hamptons. Charlotte meets a young guy and pretends that she too is in her 20s. He gives her crabs. Samantha’s young assistant steals her business contacts and invites them to a party. Carrie runs into Big and his new girlfriend who is in her 20s.

Season 2: Episode 18: “Ex and the City”
“Who are you, Goldicocks?

Carrie tries to be friends with Big despite his new relationship until she finds out that he is actually marrying the girl. Carrie tries to come to terms with this by the end of the episode. This episode references the film The Way We Were which caused me to rent and then become a fan of it as well. Samantha finds a guy whose penis is actually too big.

SEASON 3

Season 3: Episode 3 “Attack of the Five Foot Ten Woman”
“I’ve talked to her twice. Once I was in a cowboy hat and once I was in my bra. I’m like friggin’ Annie Get Your Clothes On.”
“It’s a good thing she got married. The woman is an idiot!”

Carrie has to confront her “Natasha Specific Complex”. Samantha tries to get busy with a masseuse with a reputation. Miranda hires Magda.

Season 3: Episode 9 “Easy Come, Easy Go”
“Whatever you say, I’m your booth bitch”

Carrie cheats on Aiden with Big after running into him at Aiden’s furniture show. Charlotte proposes to herself. Steve starts seeing another girl while he is still living at Miranda’s (they had already broken up).

Season 3: Episode 10 “All or Nothing”
“Until he says “I love you”, you’re a free agent.” “What is this? The Rules According to Samantha?” “See? I’m more old-fashioned than you think.”

Carrie continues to cheat on Aiden while he gets increasingly invested in the relationship. Samantha gets sick and acts like a love starved woman.

Season 3: Episode 13 “Escape from New York”
“What the fuck is Carrie’s problem?”
“Please, it’s LA. No one cares if your egg whites have a side of cock.”
“Are you in the porn industry” “I’m a lawyer for Disney”

Carrie thinks it’s a great way to escape her problems when she goes to LA to find out if her columns will be optioned for a movie. Unfortunately she writes about her love life and is now subjected to a dissection of it. Samantha dates a dildo model who turns out to be a sappy poet. Miranda wants to be sexually free. Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Michelle Gellar guest star.

Season 3: Episode 14 “Sex and Another City”
“One woman’s pornographer is another woman’s spiritual leader.”
Photobucket
Photobucket
Carrie hooks up with a guy who pretends he’s all that but is just a house sitter. Miranda meets up with an ex who seems to have become less angry and more fulfilled but just has an eating disorder. Charlotte joins them in LA because she’s sick of grappling with Trey’s impotence. The ladies attend a party at the Playboy Mansion. Vince Vaughn, Hugh Hefner and Carrie Fisher guest star.

Season 3: Episode 15 “Hot Child in the City”
“I’m scootin in heels”
“You know what I was buying when I was thirteen? Nothing! I couldn’t afford anything, I was serving dilly bars at Dairy Queen.”
“I’ve been trying to diagnose myself on the Internet….Just type in your symptoms, hit enter, and wait for the word cancer to appear on the screen.”

Photobucket

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMouApioqHc

Carrie starts dating an immature guy she meets at a comic book store. I was very excited because the guy she dates (Cane Peterson) hosted a show called The List on VH1 at the time and I had a huge crush on him. Samantha runs the PR for a spoiled rich girl’s bat mitvah. Miranda because insecure due to her new braces. Kat Dennings guest stars. This was the first time I ever saw her in anything. She did a good job because I instantly hated the character but later found out the actress herself is likable. It’s an amusing episode but a bit disturbing that they refer to smoking weed as something they did in Junior High. Carrie refers to Lemony Pepsi Light which I had never heard of but they had just come out with the updated version at the time, Diet Pepsi Twist. Carrie wore a cute teal bandana which I loved and had happened to have purchased a similar one myself prior to the episode.

SEASON 4

Season 4: Episode 1: “The Agony and the Extasy”
“You don’t even have a name?” “Well I’m single I don’t deserve one.”
“Don’t laugh at me, but maybe we could be each others soulmates? And then we could let men be just these great nice guys to have fun with?”
“You’re late.” “Not really, I’m on London time.” “London is five hours ahead.” “In that case, I’m really fucking late.”

Photobucket

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDag2C1tsBQ

Carrie turns 35 and her birthday dinner is a disaster when everyone else is a no show. The episode originally aired a few days after my 18th birthday so it got to me a little. The delectable Costas Mandylor guest stars as a sexy but unattainable priest.

Season 4: Episode 2 “The Real Me”
“When I first moved to New York and I was totally broke, sometimes I would buy Vogue instead of dinner. I felt it fed me more.”
“Oh, my god, she’s fashion roadkill!”

Photobucket

Carrie is chosen to be a model for a fashion show. She declines at first but then is swept away into the fantasy. She is perturbed when it turns out the other “real people” models are actually more accomplished writers. She gets nervous and drunk and falls down on the catwalk. Charlotte is diagnosed with a depressed vagina. She says she’s never seen it and thinks it’s ugly which doesn’t match up with an earlier episode where she models her vagina for a huge painting done by an esteemed artist. Samantha starves herself so she can get a sexy photo taken. She says it’s for herself but is upset when, at first, men don’t fall all over themselves about it. Miranda is nervous so she overcompensates and a man ends up calling her “full of herself”. Prior to this episode I was supposed to model for a little Fashion Bug show at the mall but dropped out of it when they put me in an unflattering outfit. So I was a little upset while watching and wondered if I should have just done it anyway. Alan Cumming, Margaret Cho and Heidi Klum guest star.

Season 4: Episode 3 “Defining Moments”
“Carrie likes a jazz man”
“I just left “silent Y” in the bathroom. Oh and P.S., apparently the eighties are back.”
“I’ve done the girl thing – once, twice, usually involving a guy and a couple of quaaludes.”

Photobucket
Carrie and Big start hanging out as friends. Big gets jealous when Carrie gives her number to a hot jazz player while they are out (but not on a date) together. Trey now wants to have sex with Charlotte everywhere but their apartment since they are separated. Samantha meets a female artist who has a crush on her. Samantha ends up dating her. While out at a dinner with Carrie and her jazz player and Big and a random girl Samantha warns Big about hurting her friend again. Guest stars Craig Bierko and Jim Gaffigan.

Season 4: Episode 6 “Baby, Talk is Cheap”
“His words said no but his kiss said yes.” “Okay, that’s a defense invoked by date rapists.”

Carrie decides that she still has feelings for Aiden. She tells him and at first he is very upset but then comes around. This episode features one of my favorite Aiden moments, when he screams “YOU BROKE MY HEART!”. Miranda and Samantha experiment with fake nipples. Charlotte and Trey decide to have a baby. Miranda sees a fellow runner who likes analingus.

Season 4: Episode 10 “Belles of the Balls”
“You’re middle aged!”

(fast forward to 07:44 for the fight)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LwJjq9uq7wE

Aiden is upset about Carrie still being friends with Big. Big invites himself out to visit the couple at Aiden’s cabin. He is trashed and lovesick over an actress. The next morning Carrie suggests that Big make nice with Aiden and play basketball. This turns into a muddy fight. (woot!). Steve goes to see a doctor for a prosthetic testicle. Samantha meets Richard.

SEASON 5

Season 5: Episode 3 “Luck Be and Old Lady”
“We’re talking about the other kind of pearl necklace.” “You know, when a guy decorates your neck?”
Photobucket
Charlotte is turning 36 but had decided not to celebrate and to stay 35. Carrie wants to celebrate because she wants all of the girls to hang out together. Samantha is going on a trip to Atlantic City with Richard and invites the girls along. Charlotte wears a sexy dress in AC to combat her fears of becoming an old maid. Samantha is so suspicious of Richard (due to his previous infidelity) that she drives herself crazy and then dumps him. Carrie decides to give up on love until she sees an elderly couple and wants what they have.

Season 5: Episode 3 “The Big Journey”
Photobucket
Carrie accepts an appearance to do a reading of her book in San Fransisco because she wants to have sex with Big. Samantha is bored and accompanies her on her train ride. They think it will be fun but are disappointed. Charlotte has hot sex with her divorce lawyer Harry. In CA Big doesn’t want to sleep with Carrie because he says while reading the book he realized how badly he’d hurt her and didn’t want to do it again. The next day he changes his mind and they have sex.

SEASON 6

Season 6: Episode 2 “Great Sexpectations”
“Hi, I need something that’ll make a guy cum in his pants as soon as he sees me.” “You talk to salespeople like that?”
Photobucket
Carrie and Berger can’t get their act together in the bedroom. Samantha meets Smith. Miranda skips dating in favor of Tivo. Charlotte becomes Jewish.

Season 6: Episode 9 “A Woman’s Right to Shoes” or “No Shoes, No Service”
“The fact is, sometimes it’s really hard to walk in a single woman’s shoes. That’s why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun.”
Photobucket
Carrie is forced to remove her shoes at a married friend’s house for a party so her children won’t be exposed to germs. When Carrie gets ready to leave her shoes have been stolen. Then she is repeatedly insulted by her friend about both her desire to spend a lot of money on foot wear and for actually caring about the state of their friendship. Eventually Carrie convinces her that they are equal and she is gifted a replacement pair. Miranda meets Robert. Charlotte nitpicks over Harry’s habits at home.

Season 6: Episode 11 “The Domino Effect”
“I love a cute Candy Stripper.” “It isn’t about stripping, it’s about striping.”

Carrie finds out that Big has a heart problem and needs an angioplasty. I did cry during this episode because it aired shortly after my father had 3 heart attacks (thankfully he recovered). Carrie plays nurse maid to him but when he feels better he goes back to being gruff. Miranda is dating the sexy Robert. Steve has a nose bleed that Robert treats with a tampon, embarrassing him.

Season 6: Episode 19 “An American Girl in Paris: Part Une”
“You’re the loves of her life and a guy’s just lucky to come in fourth.”
Photobucket

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhHi-yGtsu4

Carrie moves to Paris with Petrovsky (ugh). Carrie loves wearing gorgeous fashions in Paris but doesn’t love Petrovsky’s neglect.

Season 6: Episode 20 “An American Girl in Paris: Part Deux”
“It took me a really long time to get here, but I’m here. Carrie, you’re the one.”

Big goes to Paris to bring Carrie back to New York. Charlotte and Harry adopt a baby girl from China. Steve’s mother moves in with Miranda and him due to memory loss.

Go back the new movie SHOWGIRL, then come back and finish reading this.

Here’s the thing, Showgirls is my favorite movie. I have a list of about 10 movies that I list when someone asks what my favorites are and I used to have a hard time picking one until it was so obvious that it is Showgirls. This is the usual conversation “What’s your favorite movie?” “Showgirls” “You mean that awful movie with all of the naked people” “I think you mispronounced awesome”. I could give you a list of reasons why I love it. The main thing is it’s about going after your dreams no matter what. Nomi is not the most talented girl but she wants it. I could give you a ton of other reasons but I don’t feel the need to justify what I like.

Over the years Showgirls has become a cult classic. I believe there are a mostly silent section of people who unabashedly love the movie like I do. The majority though is people who have decided to love the movie ironically. That’s fine too. If that’s how you look at the flick, I suggest this article.

Currently actress Rena Riffel is using Kickstarter to get her new movie SHOWGIRL made. She refers to it as a “sleazquel” or a “satire” to the original Showgirls about her character Penny Slot/Helga.

showgirls coll

Rena Riffel is the actress who plays “Penny” or “Hope” in the original Showgirls. The next year she also appeared as Tiffany in Striptease. I always wondered about that and had wrongly assumed the woman who appeared in both films was a real stripper and that’s why she happened to be both. When I found out about this project last night it blew my mind in the most awesome way.

You can pledge $2 or more. The coolest available reward is a walk on role in the movie with your pledge of $200 or more. There are less than 30 of these available. If that’s not your thing you can get a special thanks credit for $150. For just $35 you can get an autographed 8X10 of Rena Riffel and an autographed DVD of her film Trasharella.

There are 33 days left and the film is already over half funded which is pretty impressive on Kickstarter. For more on how Kickstarter works go here.

Read Rena Riffel’s blog and follow her on twitter.

Pre-order the Blu-Ray of the original Showgirls or get the VIP Limited Edition DVD Set or the Fully Exposed Edition DVD. All of them include the same extras on the disc.

UPDATE-May 30, 2010
More rewards have been added. There are currently walk on roles, dancing parts or work on the crew.

UPDATEJuly 3, 2010
The project was successfully funded on June 25th!

There is a review of the new Showgirls – 15th Anniversary Sinsational Edition (Blu-ray) up at DVD talk. It turns out that the Blu-ray does have one new extra:

“Pole Dancing: Finding Your Inner Stripper” (11:54) talks up actress Shelia Kelley, who developed a program of exercise based on the movement of stripping. Teri Jaworski, the director of “S Factor,” is interviewed here, and she walks the viewer through a few elementary moves while attempting to tie the featurette to “Showgirls.”

TV
The Good Guys

Photobucket
Last night the new Fox show The Good Guys premiered. The Good Guys is a 1 hour police comedy with a 70s feel starring Colin Hanks and Bradley Whitford. Hanks is the young by the book cop and Whitford is the washed up alcoholic cop. I must say that I totally dug it. The commercials looked really fun and I’ve been a fan of Colin Hanks for years but just because I like one of the stars doesn’t mean I’ll always end up continuing to watch the show. I was also worried because a pilot is sometimes the best episode of a series. They showed previews for the upcoming episodes though and they looked pretty awesome. Of course this show already has something stacked against it: It’s starting in the summer. This was a “Preview Event”. The show will beginning airing in it’s regular time spot Mondays at 9PM ET on May 31st with a reairing of the Pilot. Check out the Official site. They have goodies like wallpapers and a screensaver on there. This doesn’t really have to do with the show but I think Hanks is getting cuter. I think he’s gonna be like smokin hot in 5 years.

Party Down
Photobucket
If you haven’t seen Party Down yet you don’t know the level of hilarity you’re missing. It’s a comedy about struggling actors who moonlight as caterers. Ken Marino stars. To find out more read this unconventional DVD talk review of the show. If you have Netflix you must stream seasons one and two immediately. New episodes from season 2 are actually added to Netflix on Fridays before the show even airs on Starz. The 1st season was also recently released on DVD.

SNL
Last Saturday was the season finale of SNL hosted by Alec Baldwin. I love Baldwin but the show was uneven. My favorite sketches was the Timecrowave faux infomercial.

I, like most people, loved the recent Betty White episode. She was truly hilarious.

The Office
Between Michael being a mistress and Dwight being a manwhore, last week’s episode of The Office The Chump was pretty stellar.

Ghost Whisperer
Photobucket
Jennifer Love Hewitt’s show was recently canceled after 5 seasons. The last episode airs this Friday. There are rumors that it will get picked up by ABC but they say that about a lot of shows and it rarely happens. The show has been resuscitated and revamped a bunch of times already. I’m a fan but I haven’t been a fan of all of the changes. I like Jamie Kennedy but I hate his character. I thought Jay Mohr was awesome but then he got Gary, Unmarried and they replaced him with Kennedy. When they brought Melinda’s husband back in another body that was a little to far out for me but ultimately very touching. I hated what they did for the current season though which was speed up time. I hate when children become the focus of the show which is what happened. So even though I loved being able to watch JLH in something every week it kind of needed to go (or be changed once again). Hey at least I’ll stop buying vintage dresses off of eBay on Friday nights.
P.S. Jamie Kennedy is the only celebrity to ever block me on twitter because I said they should get rid of him. I also said his head was too fat but he didn’t block me then. xd

You should go watch these Boba Fetish videos starring Chris Gore, very funny.

NightStalker
You can watch all 10 episodes of Stuart Townsends’ very cool, short lived, supernatural drama Night Stalker on IMDB right now.

FILM
Netflix
I haven’t seen a lot of new stuff added to Netflix lately so I went through and just picked some out.

Before Robert Downey Jr. was known as Iron Man, before he was showcasing his talent in awesome, offbeat roles he was cranking out romcoms that I, and I’m sure other, little girl’s loved: Heart and Souls, Only You, Chances Are.

Robin Hood opened last weekend. My Ridley Scott picks are: G.I. Jane and Blade Runner.

Check out some of the flicks I mentioned in My Top Movies of 09 post: Spread, Spring Breakdown, Streets of Blood, Powder Blue.

Other Good Flicks: Sherry Baby, Pandorum, The Edge of Love.

TRAILERS

Machete

An amazing level of awesomeness. I can’t believe we have to wait until September to see it.

Cyrus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1KjF-jHENms
This looks like a really weird black comedy. In fact when I stumbled across the site looking for something else I thought it was a joke. The poster looks like something out of an SNL sketch.

Inception
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z75o-F6ja2I
I get a really cool Thirteenth Floor vibe from this.

Jonah Hex
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2AS9DjwR-o
Pretty cool. Plus I’m a big Megan Fox fan.

Still loves Hal Sparks. If you don’t follow him on twitter. You are missing stuff like this.

MUSIC
Amazon’s $5 MP3 albums aren’t as impressive this month. Check out the full list here. My picks are Volume Two-She & Him, Greatests Hits-Blondie,& This Is War-30 Seconds to Mars.

Christina Aguilera
I really wasn’t sure if I liked Aguilera’s new song, Not Myself Tonight, when I watched the video a couple of times because I was focused on the video. Then I heard it in the car one day and caught myself singing along.

Photobucket

To all of the people who saying she is copying Lady Gaga or whoever: They aren’t the only one people to wear bright colors and crawl on the floor. (Tongue in cheek: Obviously she’s not copying me.) Just making a point that there are tons of people out there who try new things. It’s not a big deal. And FYI Xtina “reinvents” herself every album. Either like her or don’t.

I’m super excited about this week’s picks because one of my posts was included!

Beauty is Truth

Edited by Thom Wong

Beauty is truth and truth is beauty, but what happens when fashion enters the mix? Several of this week’s links tackle this thorny question with gusto, teasing out the various layers of meaning behind the term beauty and what it means to feel or be beautiful. Ethics and the material nature of style emerged as another dominant theme. The Laundry Narrative wonders if she can enjoy fashion blogging without dealing with the BIG ISSUES. Then there are longer form posts where I felt the writers stretched their narrative legs, some new voices in the game who could use your attention, and, since this is still about fashion, some lovely outfit pics of girls on bikes. Finally I’ve included the only two men who bothered to post (seriously, what up men). And meggings – nooooo!!!!!

crowe collage 1

When it comes to a lot of actors I liked them before they got really famous. Off the top of my head I’m thinking of Gerard Butler and Leonardo DiCaprio. However when it comes to Russell Crowe I fell for him when everyone else did when Gladiator hit the screens in 2000.

Then I had to track down as many of his other flicks as possible. This is why I have a box full of video tapes with him in odd movies/roles like the Salma Hayek relationship flick (Breaking Up), the one where he hits a woman (L.A. Confidential), the one where he plays a killer android (Virtuosity), the “western” (The Quick and the Dead), the one where he’s a skinhead (Romper Stomper) and the one he gained weight and made himself look aged for (The Insider). Sure some were bad and others were not my speed.

Looking at Crowe’s resume I’m unsure if I would have watched most of his movies if he wasn’t in them. I still stand by Virtuosity being tacky good fun though. I even had the book adaptation of Proof of Life because it had a sex scene in it that was edited from the movie and one of his band’s CDs. In the 2000’s he went on to make some great, but depressing films. All in all I find it crazy how great Crowe is that I’d basically watch him in anything.

I’m still kicking myself for not going to be an extra in The Next Three Days, which was shot in Pittsburgh.

This may be one of the most rambling things I’ve ever written. Oh well, what can I say? Russell Crowe is a sexy, manly man from Down Under who doesn’t exactly inspire coherent thoughts from me.
