In the early 2000’s I decided to look for some fun clothes on eBay and ran across the Little Big Girl group of DIY designers. I loved their clothes. One of my favorites was Lime Crime. Through eBay I learned about her LiveJournal where she showcased her edgy looks. Xenia is a daring woman who isn’t afraid to go after her dreams. I was always outbid on eBay and only owned one piece of clothing made by her. I wore it to see KISS and later to see the KISS cover band Love Gun. At the time I was trying to break free of the closed minded people in my town and she definitely showed me that you could be bold if you wanted to.

Don't you just love the pink wall in Macs bathroom?

What was really cool was she didn’t feel stifled to stick to one creative medium. Over the years she’s accomplished many things including her clothing line, music, modeling, blogging and now her highly successful makeup brand. Through it all she never let herself get slowed down by naysayers. Xenia is super nice, supportive and understanding to her fans.

I currently only one of her lipsticks No She Didn’t because I’m frequently broke and more of an impulse department store instead of online makeup shopper but I definitely want to buy a few more. The line is full of beautiful bold colors.

You have to check out her awesome blog, Doe Deere Blogazine. My favorite posts of hers are Style Diary and Makeup Tutorials but basically anything she writes is bound to inspire you.

I recently became a member of LOOKBOOK Below is the first look I posted on there and another collage I made just for here. If you’re on there feel free to Fan me or Hype me or whatever you do on there. I’m still learning the ropes. I had to wear this fun dress I got on eBay when I when I went to lunch with my mother on Monday. We went the day after Mother’s Day because we didn’t want to go when it was packed & I had to work on Mother’s Day. If you’re wondering I got my mom the shirt she’s wearing at Kmart. Now she has it in blue and yellow.

The Business and Beauty of Style

Edited by Debutante Clothing

This week, the links were especially thoughtful. With all of the buzz about fashion bloggers and how (or if) we make money, it was great to see some insightful posts about fashion and the almighty dollar. Grechen of Grechen Blogs discusses blogging for money, while Style On a String takes an in depth look at the dark side of logo chasing. But let’s not get too bogged down with the seriousness of fashion. Perhaps Simply Luxurious can convince you to indulge in the beauty of fashion with her collage of gorgeous, backless gowns. Or maybe you’re more interested in a catwalk down memory lane, via celluloid, with Old Fashion Love Story’s stills of unforgettable 70s costumes from the film Mahogany (costume designed by Miss Diana Ross!). After all, in the sarcastic words of Stanley Tucci in The Devil Wears Prada, “Yes, that is what this billion dollar business is all about. Inner beauty”. Enjoy!

Iron Man 2-5/7

Photobucket
In this sequel to 2008’s Iron Man Tony Stark fights some other people who also wear metal outfits. Or some jazz like that. As big budget blockbusters go this looks pretty cool. I love the cast: Robert Downey Jr. (of course), Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Saumel L. Jackson, Paul Bettany & Garry Shandling. However I had to watch the 1st movie about 3 times before I got through it because I kept falling asleep. So I think I’ll wait for the Blu-ray. The posters are awesome though. P.S. This is already out and making bank in the UK.

Robin Hood-5/14

Robin Hood is an action retelling of the story by director Ridley Scott starring Russell Crowe. Scott has directed Crowe in a lot of movies including Gladiator so many expect this to be very good. I’ve loved Crowe for years & it looks interesting so I’ll be at the theater opening weekend for this one.

Letters to Juliet-5/14

Amanda Seyfried stars in what looks to be your average formulaic romantic comedy. The film was actually filmed partially in Italy. This will be a rental for me.

Just Wright-5/14

From IMDB: A physical therapist (Queen Latifah) falls for the basketball player (Common) she is helping recover from a career-threatening injury. I’m not sure on this one. The plot makes me want to watch Love & Basketball again.

MacGruber-5/21

As a huge SNL fan, you’re probably not surprised that I’ve been flipping out over awesome this movie looks. Plus Val Kilmer (with pony tail) is playing the villain. Just awesome. Go here to watch the SNL sketches.

Holy Rollers-5/21

I’m not really a fan of Jesse Eisenberg but this film about a drug dealing Jewish guy who dresses like a rabbi is sort of intriguing looking.

Sex and the City 2-5/27 (Thursday)

I love, love, love Sex and the City. Many complained that the first film was depressing but I thought it was great. This one looks like over the top fun.
Bonus: Go buy Carrie and Samantha’s dresses now.

Survival of the Dead-5/28

Photobucket
This is the new George Romero film which is a sequel to Diary of the Dead. I liked DOTD & thought that it was cool that Romero was trying something different. Reviews of this have been very bad but IMHO even bad zombie movies are fun. You can already watch it streaming on Amazon.
Bonus: Follow Romero on twitter.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time-5/28

I’m not gonna lie and act like I know or care what this movie is about. I mean just look at Jake Gyllenhaal. He is super hot in this. Go here for more pics of Jake.

BY Collage

Despite the fact that I’m not that old (27 at the end of the month) I’ve seen a lot of change on the internet. My household got the net when I was in Jr. High. I was the first child in my school who used it. Some of the well off kids’ parents had it but they wouldn’t let them use their expensive computers. Back then the net was more information based instead of socially based. Although I always had a hard time finding any factoid I needed, funny considering what I do now. Initially I (naively) thought that chat rooms would be a cool way of talking to people all over the world. Turns out they were mainly for picking people up.

So I contributed to a forum or two and some newsgroups. This was all well and good but it was very plain to see that women were often under represented, then insulted when they spoke up. In a forum of malcontents I hung out in men habitually bitched about their love lives and in a Seinfeld sort of way always had “good reasons” for it. If a woman spoke up and said the same thing the men turned on her saying “She had it easy and should be able to get any guy she wanted easily if she wasn’t “fat and/or ugly”. And what were we women doing hanging around here anyway when we should be off tanning, cleaning or cooking?

I think this is why I’ve gotten into reading a number fashion blogs lately. I enjoy the blogs featuring women who feel like it lets them express themselves in a way that they weren’t able to before. A lot of them preface their site with “I know I’m fat, ugly, short, poor, ____ (insert imagined imperfection here)” but then they post what they want anyway. (FYI: I’m guilty of this too). That might sound harsh but those are the ones I prefer. The girls who are more in the vein of “Now I’m off to party with a billionaire” don’t forge a real connection. I know that there are other types of female run blogs but they don’t speak to me as I don’t cook or have children.

On the surface it seems silly to be inspired by someone modeling their shoes until you think about it.
