bttf tee
Back to the Future 88MPH Tee
by Shirt Punch, exclusively for Nerd Block
approximately $10
This is an okay tee for a great movie. Personally I would have liked something more innovative. I can’t find this particular tee online. Here’s one on Amazon that includes 88MPH. This one is more of a cosplay style. It actually has Marty’s shirt and vest printed on it. Now I would have LOVED something like this! BTTF tees seem to retail online for about $10-20. This actual shirt was made exclusively for Nerd Block from Shirt Punch. Shirt Punch is a site that has a tee for a limited amount of time. Tees on there go for $10.

kevin smith book
Tough Shit: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good (paperback book)
by Kevin Smith
retail $13.49
I love Kevin Smith, but I have a huge stack of books to read. Hopefully this will be entertaining when I actually get around to reading it. IMHO-Books shouldn’t be a main item in a crate because it’s been my experience that they have the lowest resale value right after you buy one, even if it’s brand new. For instance, you can buy this used for 15 cents right now on Amazon. Why do I mention resale? I will resell items that I don’t want.

ecto 1
Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Car
by Titan(s) Vinyl Figures exclusively for Nerd Block
approximately $20
This is exclusive to Nerd Block. I immediately resold on eBay for $10, because it’s not my style. It would probably have a projected retail price of around $20. This is the Funko that I refer to in the video. If I had received this, it would be proudly displayed in my home right now.

pacman mug
Pac-Man Heat Changing Mug
by Paladone Products
$10.99
This mug sells for $10.99 on Amazon. The design changes with heat, which is cool, but I most likely would not pay over $5 for it.

nerd block cards
Nerd Play Cosplayer Playing Cards
by Nerd Block
approximately $1
I’m being generous at estimating these at any type of price point as I think they are a ridiculous product.

Actual Price
almost $30

Approximate Retail Value
$55.48

This box did not live up to my expectations. It proves that even if the items are technically worth an adequate amount, if they are not worth it to you, then it’s a waste of money.

A while back I happened to be browsing the biographies section of our local library. I was mainly looking for author bios but a brightly colored book stuck out. Grabbing it off the shelf my inner 5 year old was giddy. The book was Miss Piggy’s Guide to Life. I was in awe, I was excited, I was confused.

The book was published in 1983 (the year of my birth!) and was written as told to Henry Beard (aka by him, since she’s a muppet). Apparently he was one of the founders of the National Lampoon magazine.

The crazy thing is that it’s an awesome book. As I repeatedly perused the pages I knew that had to share it with you guys. It’s funny, empowering to women (odd since it’s by a man in the early ’80s) and written with an adult tone. Though tempting I did not scan the entire book (also plagiarism, ahem) but I wanted to highlight some key parts.

Now let’s bask in the wonder of Miss Piggy’s wisdom, aka one of my role models while growing up (which also includes Dolly Parton, hmm, no wonder I’m a bottle blonde).

1. Complexion Perfection

Miss Piggy advises a simple skin care regime of basically washing your fae with water, admiring it and then eating candy, how can you go wrong?

Yes, tanning is bad for you, blah, blah, blah. If you’re saying that you never do it though, you are lying. She advises tanning in moderation as Kermit has been known to go from green to blue with too much exposure.

2. Depression

Obviously not for serious depression but if you have a bit of the blues think about things that could be worse (see above). No TV, the horror!

3. “Dieting”

(please read her scale)
Sure you could diet but it’s restrictive and not at all fun, besides you probably burn some calories just being your amazing self, right?

4. Have a Little Fun (ex. Spin the Bottle)

This is actually under party planning advice but I just needed to share that somewhere out there muppets are playing spin the bottle. BTW-a quick spin the bottle tip from moi? Don’t let it evolve into groping. The whole group dynamic goes down the toilet.

5. Exercising

If you’re bf could actually exercise for you that would be amazing. Yes, you can exercise but don’t forget about all of the above activities you may do that already burn calories.

6. How to Model

Modeling is actually under exercise. I know that sounds ridiculous but there have been times that I woke up the next day after taking photos and wondered why does this muscle hurt? Oh yeah, I was crouching down for that perfect shot. These are some key pin up looks that I recommend you try ASAP. So fun!

7. Choosing a Career (based on the clothes)

Before Elle Woods, Miss Piggy also considered a career in law but the robes are just not flattering. She’s a wonderful model but she isn’t into actually dieting so she also rules that out. The underground food critic option sounds like a good choice for her, though I abhor the outfit.

In case this sounds like an odd way to choose a career I must tell you a tale. As someone who has always been fascinated by fashion my father once remarked after seeing me browsing a Newport News catalog, “you can wear suits like that every day if you become a secretary”. Surprisingly I was a teen in the 90s, not the 40s, I know, I know.

8. Cooking

As any modern woman of the 80s, or 90s, or whatever the hell you call the decade that we currently reside in, who the fuck wants to cook? Not moi. Order takeout instead and save your energy for after dinner smooches.

The message that you take away from this book is surprisingly better than any actual, serious self help book I’ve ever read. Don’t take life so seriously and have some fun!

FYI-This book is out of print (sigh), so most people are gouging the price of it.

or you can try eBay

faux straw hat-Dollar Tree, wooden beaded necklace-gift from a friend, 1980s red triangle clip on earrings-gift from a friend, 1980s dress by in cinq with rope belt-thrifted, kitten heel espadrilles by Predictions-thrifted

One beautiful day in late May (why the fuck am I rhyming?), I decided on this get up. My sister was visiting. She had just done my hair and makeup for another post so I felt silly dressing down with a fancy head on my shoulders. Plus it felt like a fun day. So I decided on this dress from the 80s that I’d found a couple of months before in a thrift store. I love the bright floral bottom. It also had padded shoulders but I cut those babies right out.

I had to add another thrift store find, some super cute tan kitten heel style espadrilles. They are very similar to some that I had highly coveted from my favorite online shoe club but they cost me $36 less.

I completed the look with some fun costume jewelry given to me by a friend and a cheap, yet incredibly durable hat.

My sister, Hot Donna, decided to get in on the fun so this is the same day that we shot her In the Garden photos.

Albertus Swanepoel for Target Ganache Hat, pink pearls-Kmart, faux leather brown bomber jacket-Dots, Carol Anderson brown and white polka dot dress-thrifted, green pantyhose-Target, Rocket Dog heels-thrifted

As you’re aware I have a bit of a 90s fetish. So as of late I’d found myself ogling the cute, comfy looking shirtdresses sported by Bridget Fonda, Mary Stuart Masterson and the like while watching 90s flicks. So yes, I was on the look out for a shirtdress to add to my wardrobe. What I happened to come across was actually one that I believe is from the 80s that was trying to evoke the 50s. I loved it. And yes, it totally came from the local magical thrift shop where I score stuff like this super cheap.

As I mentioned in my Miracle-Gro post I’ve been wanting to do an OOTD in front of our garden. However I’ve been feeling run down and not even trying to dress in anything but tees and cargos lately. However at the end of April during a day that felt like fall I tried to improve my down in the dumps spirit/downtrodden body by wearing this and whatever other fun things that struck my fancy.

I paired my dress with some green tights I got at Target over the winter, adorable brown and green Rocket Dog heels, a faux leather jacket I got at Dots a while back, my pink pearls (cuz why not) and topped it with a cloche hat that I snagged at Target on sale. Yes, it was from that Albertus Swanepoel for Target collection that I was coveting last fall. I managed to score this one and the blue hat in my snow alien photo set (also from his collection) super cheap since people in this town don’t love hats like I do (clearance baby!).

I sort of felt like I was walking around from a different time period in this outfit but it definitely cheered me up, thus doing its job.
