The theme of the May 2015 Loot Crate was Unite. Check out my video review above and a breakdown of the items included below.

Exclusive Green Ranger T-shirt by Flophouse
approximately $10
power rangers tee
This is an exclusive, but I just value all tees at $10 or so. It was teased by LC that the tee for May would be Power Rangers related, so I ordered it in Robert Sunshine’s size, instead of mine. He’s the Power Ranger fan out of this couple. As usual, this shirt is made by Gildan. It is 100% cotton, so it does shrink if you don’t wash it in cold water. I forgot this time, but it still fits him fine. I’ve noticed that tees from Loot Crate seem to fit loosely, so even if you end up washing and drying them normally, they still fit well. He loves it and has gotten numerous compliments on it. I dig the design, even though I haven’t watched Power Rangers in decades. You can buy a Green Ranger costume tee for around $20 on Amazon.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Car Decal from Marvel
approximately $6.88
decal
This decal also appears to be an exclusive, as I’m not finding it anywhere online, aside from resellers. I think that it’s pretty cool. I definitely was all for this box when they announced that it would include at least two Marvel items. Other Avengers decals sell for $6.88 on Amazon.

Exclusive Team Fortress 2 4 Pin Collector’s Set
approximately $5
pins

These are another exclusive that you can’t buy anywhere else. These pins are for a free online game. I haven’t played it, but have already fallen for the pink unicorn (Balloonicorn) pin, adorable! You can play the game here FOR FREE via Steam.

Exclusive Bravest Warriors Tales from the Holo John #1 Comic by BOOM! Studios
approximately $1.99
KIMG0217
Yes, this is also an exclusive item. I don’t watch this show, but a friend of mine who does seemed to dig this comic. You can buy other Bravest Warriors comics and comic compendiums here on Amazon.

Marvel Super Heroes Ice Tray by ICUP, Inc.
$9.80
cubes
I am in love with this! Not only is it an ice cube tray with molds that include Captain America’s shield and Tony Stark’s face, but it’s also made of silicone. I plan to use it to make jello shots and candy as well as ice cubes.

Exclusive MAD Magazine Loot Crate Edition from DC Entertainment
approximately $2.66
mad
Yep, exclusive! Prior to receiving this, I hadn’t read MAD in years. However, this is totally getting me back into it. I really got a kick out of the Avengers parody comic within. A 6 issue/1 year subscription to MAD is $16 on Amazon.

Exclusive Marvel Sneaker Laces by Esquire Footwear
approximately $7
laces
These exclusive laces came in either black and white or color. They show the comic scroll that you see prior to each Marvel movie. Very fun!

Exclusive Rick and Morty Jigsaw Puzzle from Cardinal Industries, Inc.
approximately $5
puzzle
Yes, also exclusive. RS is a huge Rick and Morty fan, so he totally digs this. You can buy the first season of Rick and Morty here on Amazon.

Loot Crate May 2015 Unite Pin
approximately $1
mo
I think that these pins are cute. I do collect them, even though I don’t buy a crate every month.

Loot Crate Magazine Unite May 2015 No. 22
lc mag
I get a kick out of these “magazines”. They really are styled like one and are so much more fun to check out than the cards that other boxes tend to include. Not only do they include a rundown on the items in your box, but there are also a few related articles.

box
And lastly, the crate itself! Turned inside out, it resembles a superheroes’ locker room. I appreciate the detail that LC puts into their boxes.

Actual Price
$19.95

Approximate Retail Value
$49.33

As usual, this was another winning box content and value wise from Loot Crate.

whedon better

This post is not just an excuse to post pics of myself with Joss Whedon online, yet again. However if you had one, you’d totally do so as well.

Last year I mentioned that I wanted to start a Netflix Streaming series on this blog entitled, Mini Netflix. The idea was that since my usual Netflix posts are so time consuming I would sometimes write a shorter post focusing on one talent or niche genre, most likely including a small number of titles.

Today I finally decided to focus on the super talented Joss Whedon. However I was not content to just go with his well known work that pops up on your casual Netflix search. Oh no, I had to go deeper. So after looking through his whole filmography I’m still ending up with a long ass post, c’est la vie!

Simply click on the title to be taken to the movie or show on Netflix!

The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
(co-writer)
cabin in the woods
After checking out the Thor panel at last year’s Wizard World Philly Comic Con I had to see The Cabin in the Woods ASAP. Chris Hemsworth (and his fans) made it sound super interesting. They were right! I went in not knowing much more than that the basic plot was about some college students in a horror movie scenario in the woods that is turned on its ear. So if you don’t know “the twist” I’m not ruining it. The movie was penned by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard. It was also directed by Goddard. I met both Whedon and Goddard years ago at a convention and they were both awesome. Since both worked on Buffy and Angel, seeing Whedonverse favs including Amy Acker and Tom Lenk among the cast wasn’t entirely surprising but was totally cool.

Did you know that Joss Whedon directed the after the credits scene in Thor? Neither did I. As you can guess from my attending the aforementioned panel, I’m definitely a Thor fan. This action flick about the Greek god and his dashingly evil bro Loki features an amazing cast.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
(consultant)
cap am
I was jazzed when I first heard about Captain America because it stars Chris Evans, whom I may have a tiny crush on. It’s yes, another one of the Marvel Avengers pre-The Avengers (by Whedon) flicks. This origin story is fun, though a bit long. Whedon was a consultant on this film which according to the net means he did a bit of a writing touch up on the screenplay.

Glee (2010)
(director)
dream on
I have 0 interest in Glee. However I must let you know that Whedon directed the 2010 episode, “Dream On”. “Mr. Schuester’s former high school nemesis, Bryan Ryan, causes trouble for the glee club. Meanwhile, Rachel struggles with a life-long personal issue, and Artie’s dreams take him on an adventure” via imdb.com

Dollhouse (2009)
(creator/writer/director/producer)
dollhouse cast
I’m such a fan of Dollhouse that I can’t even explain it. I used to look forward to it every Friday night. The show had such an innovative idea. I’m still crushed that it only lasted two seasons. Eliza Dushku (Buffy, Bring It On) stars as the active Echo, just one of many. Actives are people who’ve had their memories erased. They are then replaced regularly with new memories as directed by the Dollhouse’s clients, the very wealthy. Over the course of the series Echo finds out about her past life and the secrets of the Dollhouse. Many Whedonverse stars appeared during the series run, including Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Summer Glau and Alan Tudyk.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (2008)
(writer/director)
dr horrible
This musical miniseries was written during the Writers Guild of America strike. It’s not really my thing but does star the awesome Neil Patrick Harris and Whedonverse actors Nathan Fillion and Felicia Day.

Firefly (2002) & Serenity (2005)
(creator/writer/director/producer)

Yep, Firefly was the quickly canceled Western space drama starring Nathan Fillion. I’m not a Western girl so though I’ve seen the series and it’s big screen movie adaptation (Serentiy), I’m somewhat embarrassed to admit that I’m not a Browncoat, sorry.

Angel (1999-2003)
(creator/writer/director/producer)

with Mercedes McNab and Julie Benz

with Mercedes McNab and Julie Benz

Though Angel was Buffy’s spin off I prefer Angel. It’s definitely my favorite Whedonverse series. Angel (Buffy’s ex and a vampire) works with his own team to help those with supernatural problems, who live in LA. Ostensibly he runs a detective agency but it doesn’t really turn a profit.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997-2002)

I didn’t get into the Buffy series until it was well into it’s run. This was for two reasons, it was popular (hey, I was a teen, I wanted to like what was unpopular, like me) and I love the movie. I’d read articles about the series in movie magazines featuring Whedon (who wrote the movie) commenting on how he was disappointed with the movie and that the show was better. So being a huge fan of the movie, I just ignored it. However once I actually watched the show (starring Sarah Michelle Gellar) I became a fan. Buffy is a slayer of vampires who happens to also fall for vampires and have to defeat other creepy monsters as well. She’s aided by her watcher and a group of friends, The Scooby Gang. You didn’t ask but Season 6 is by far my favorite, it’s dark and realistic. I mean, c’mon Buffy even works in fast food!

Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
(story)
atlantis
It’s animated which isn’t really my bag, so I’ve never seen it. “A young adventurer named Milo Thatch joins an intrepid group of explorers to find the mysterious lost continent of Atlantis.”-via imdb.com

Titan A.E. (2000)
(screenplay)
titan ae
Ditto about this animated flick. “A young man learns that he has to find a hidden Earth ship before an enemy alien species does in order to secure the survival of humanity.”-via imdb.com

Anthony Hopkins gave him some advice regarding getting into character and the costume helping.

Joss Whedon is not writing The Avengers 2.
He goes into how Thor’s character arc is different from other superheroes because he loses his power and then has to regain it in Thor.
He also mentions how he tried to work out the family dynamic of acting within a family of gods.

Clare Kramer asks how it was to film the capsule scene and Hemsworth discusses the technical aspects of that.

Chris mentions his hopes for the character’s growth of Thor during Thor 2.

If Chris Hemsworth were going up against anyone in Cabin in the Woods as himself he says that he would choose one of the more nonthreatening characters.

Yes, the Thor panel at Wizard World was awesome. To see Chris Hemsworth live is amazing.

He was a convention virgin, aw. Unfortunately this means that some people took advantage of him. First one girl asked for a birthday hug. My birthday was right around this time as well but anyone who has ever attended a convention knows that is not proper convention etiquette. The crazy thing was this happened at least two more times. This was a really great way for those chicks to get out of paying for the expensive professional Thor photo op (they had friends taking pictures of these encounters). If I were working the con I would have put a stop to that post haste. You just don’t let fans onstage during a panel. It’s not really safe for the actors and definitely affects the time of the panel.

These videos were filmed by Hot Donna (which is great because her camera has a slightly higher MP count than mine). However that was because I was waiting in one of the Q&A lines to ask a question. They did cut it off before I was able to ask my question. It would have been about the brotherly dynamic between Thor and Loki. However someone asked a similar question prior to that so I was going to change it to a silly question, “What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?”. My actual guess is that he doesn’t eat food like that because well, look at him!

This may sound mean but so be it. There were a lot of non questions asked (and no I’m not mainly referring to the children in attendance). When you compare the the Thor panel to the Buffy panel that we later attended you just see a huge surge in the IQ of the attendees. So people were constantly telling Hemsworth how hot he is and congratulating him on his baby. Maybe if 1 person had done those things it wouldn’t have seemed quite so irksome but it was repeatedly.

At any rate Hot Donna was still able to record a few pretty cool questions that participants asked.

missemmamm, Chris Hemsworth, Hot Donna

Yes, I did convince Donna to pay for part of the photo op because I adore Thor. She said “I didn’t know you liked Thor that much?” and then I looked at her like duh. After the op she went on and on about his beautiful blue eyes. I now see them in the first photo above. However I have a hard time looking people in the eyes and they do these very quickly so I didn’t notice live.

Press passes to the convention were provided to both Hot Donna & myself gratis from the awesome PR team at Wizard World.
The next Wizard World Comic Con takes place in Chicago this August. For more info on their upcoming cons please visit the Wizard World site.
