  1. Style File: Winter Lady

    January 27, 2012 by missemmamm

Last week it started snowing one night so I thought the next day would be perfect for some outdoor outfit photos.

Sofia by Sofia Vergara Shawl Collar Wrap Sweater-Kmart, C&C California tank dress-thrifted, Attention scarf-Kmart, Xhilaration leggings-Target, Bongo Women's Honor Cowboy Boot-Kmart, Baby Phat corset style wide elastic belt-Beyond the Rack, floral ring-Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, cat ring-CTB's Closet

I had just snagged that Sofia Vergara sweater I’d been coveting. Kmart was having a huge sale and there was one left. It was a size smaller than I’d planned on getting but the only difference was it’s a bit more boobaliscious than the next size up. I also included these awesome boots that I scored at Kmart. I have a bunch of thrifted boots that I wear all of the time but I really wanted a new pair (that I didn’t have to worry about the heel popping off of). They are cowboy boots but to me they really seem like a cross between cowboy and motorcycle boots. So that makes them a bit more interesting. I’ve been wearing these often since I bought them. They’re perfect for winter.

I decided to layer my sweater over a cotton tank dress and leggings. To give all of that black a little pop I added a floral scarf. Plus I incorporated a corset style elastic belt for shaping. It came with a bubble coat that I wear often but I don’t really care for wearing belts over coats. To finish the look I added a couple of rings.

  2. Style File: Rough Polka Dots

    December 19, 2011 by missemmamm

Recently, as I’ve mentioned, I bought some pieces from the now defunct Jovovich-Hawk for Target line from eBay. The other pieces were so cute that I had to get the polka dot babydoll dress as well. This particular item was from the Go International re-release earlier this year. It’s so cute and comfy. If you ever end up picking one up on eBay you can size down a size cuz it’s so billowy.

I was trying to find a way to make it look a little more fitted but it was not flattering with any of my belts. Since it was jacket weather on that particular day I was able to just throw my old trusty bomber over it. Apparently the Miley Cyrus Walmart line that it’s from has now completely folded so I am going to be SOL in the future. I have such an attachment to this jacket that I’m feeling a bit like John Cusack at the moment. The same can be said about the boots that I wore with it.

I actually wanted to wear knee high boots that day but when I dug out my two pairs they were super worn out. I was hoping to do a DIY project with them but all of the craft stores and craft sections of stores around here are apparently gone. I added my sweater leggings which kept the slight chill off.

These photos are from the release of the higher end line and I believe that the dress that Milla is wearing is from her original line (and most likely the inspiration for the Target relese).

  3. Style File: Summer 2011 30 for 30 Part 1

    August 11, 2011 by missemmamm

This post is a part of 30 for 30 month. I believe that these first 4 outfits were worn at the end of June and beginning of July.

Rue 21 colorblock top-thrifted, green slim fit pants with side zippers/pockets-Dots, double wrap rope belt-ShoeDazzle, chain necklace-Target, Paulo Corelli boots-thrifted.

For this outfit I simply paired a top I’ve had for a while with these comfy pants that I scored super cheap at Dots earlier this year with my Paulo Corelli boots & Target necklace (both previously seen here). I was excited to try wearing these belts that I bought from ShoeDazzle as a DazzleDeal, All the Rage in white. It included 4 belts and a hat. Up til now I’ve always been a very occasional wearer of belts. This is probably my favorite of the 4 belts because you can wear it with so much stuff and it’s comfortable.

    Gap black tee-thrifted, chain necklace-Target, double rope belt-ShoeDazzle, Piper & Blue jeans-Kmart

Liz Claiborne faux patent leather bag-thrifted, Predictions boots-thrifted

I wore this when I went to see Bad Teacher. I mainly just wanted to wear these awesome boots (previously seen in this post). that I had snagged recent to then. I have worn them often since then when it hasn’t been to hot to do so. So I just put something simple together. I used the same necklace & belt from the previous outfit. These are a favorite pair of jeans that I wear often (also seen here). I’ve had this bag for a few months and still love it. It’s bigger and has short handles, which are both out of the ordinary for me in a bag, but the fun style makes up for any annoyance those cause.

American Apparel Slate Jersey Dress-RueLaLa, gray lace look top-gift, belt-ShoeDazzle, Bongo floral leggings-Kmart, pink stone bracelet-gift.

    Clarks boots-thrifted

I put this together one day mainly to wear these leggings and then saw this dress I had bought from Ruelala a while back but hadn’t worn and this belt I had bought in that ShoeDazzle DazzleDeal that I mentioned. I wear these boots all of the time (previously seen here. They are really comfy. The whole outfit was fun and comfortable.

Just For Wraps denim dress-Dots, belt-ShoeDazzle, brown cuff-Dots, tangerine Cardiff bag-ShoeDazzle, Lower Eastside butterfly cowboy boots-Payless

I bought this dress from Dots on sale a while ago. It’s 2-3 sizes too big but I figured that I would wear it as a tent dress like the models do. However since I bought all of these belts I’ve been belting it up when I go out and then wearing it beltless (more comfy) around the house. I decided that I had to wear my Cardiff bag (they don’t have tangerine anymore but you can still get it in brown or black) from ShoeDazzle with this outfit. Plus I added a ShoeDazzle belt, Dots cuff and my butterfly cowboy boots (also seen in spring, I reckon).

  4. Welcome to July: 90s, Scifi & 30 for 30

    July 2, 2011 by missemmamm

    Welcome to July readers!

Hopefully I’m not biting off more than I can chew here but I’ve been full of ideas lately (to give you an idea, 1/2 the posts in my dashboard are drafts). I had already decided that I wanted July to be 90s Month, plus I’ve been getting into watching/reading more scifi stuff and I’ve decided to participate in Kendie Everyday’s 30 for 30. Now this is going to amount to a ton of posts this month but don’t worry if none of these subjects interest you. I will still be blogging about additional topics, including more Netflix Streaming posts and a couple of new Photo Sets.

    90s Month

    1996

90s Month will feature a bunch of posts on things that I loved about the 90s including movies, fashion and music. If you would like to participate and write a 90s post on your own blog during July just leave a comment on 1 of my 90s posts. If I get at least a few of those I will feature them at some time during the month. I know, I know, you’re thinking, “Uh, Mary, isn’t it always 90s Month on here?”. Shut up! But seriously, I do realize that I reference the 90s a lot because it was fun.

    Scifi Month

    2032

I have gotten into scifi films and books lately. Plus the DVDTalk forum does an Annual Summer Sci-Fi/Fantasy Challenge that I haven’t participated in during the past so this seems like a great time to give that a try. These challenges are basically about trying to watch as many films/TV shows pertaining to a certain genre in a certain amount of time. My list is here. It isn’t complete yet. I will not be mentioning everything on it on this blog so feel free to check it out.

    30 for 30

If you don't love boots we probably can't be friends.

The 30 for 30 challenge is a great challenge that many women have been doing for a while. You basically pick 30 items out of your wardrobe and during the time that you choose to allot to yourself you use them to make 30 outfits. I haven’t done this in the past but the rules are much simpler this time, which is great because I’ve always had to follow my own rules. I can’t be hemmed in to choose all of my pieces a month before I wear them but I’m going to do my own version of this. My main aim is to try to wear outfits instead of just throwing on my comfy cargoes and men’s graphic tees all of the time. This is very easy for me to do since I am a recluse. However everyone knows that you are likely to cheer yourself up a little when you like or are having fun with what you are wearing. I will not be including shoes in the number of items because they are my favorite thing and I have so many that I love. I have already started wearing these outfits and should have my first post in the series up soon. I’ll post likely be doing cumulative posts for this about once a week. You can find links to all of the current remixers on Kendi’s site here. My previous Style File posts are here.
