Golden Tote is a monthly fashion service. Unlike most monthly bags, boxes or crates, you are only charged if you login and make a purchase. New styles are released (at least) monthly, though. You can purchase a $49 small tote, a $99 surprise tote or a $149 large tote. Shipping is free if you spend at least $149.

The cool thing about this service is that it’s curated. This means that if you choose the small tote, you can choose one tote item and then they pick a surprise item for you, based off of your style profile. For the $149 tote, you choose two items and then receive 3 or 4 more that are surprises. The $99 tote is 4 surprises.

Stylists also work off of your notes. So if you absolutely love maxis, let them know! You can even mention surprises by name and they will try to get you them, if they are available. You can also buy additional items from their boutique. If you buy them while getting a tote, then they may be offered at a great discount. This is the first month that GT has started offering swimwear and shoes!

If you would like to join Golden Tote, click here. (Please note: This is a referral link. If you purchase through my link, then I get a $10 credit towards my purchase.) Now, these are just my personal favorites. There are many other styles available this month.

Totes go on sale on the first Monday of the month. So, July’s sale launches on Monday, July 6 at 12PM EST. Hop on ASAP to make sure you can get your size in your favorites.

in the TOTES and the BOUTIQUE

leopard Collage
Ladylike Leopard Maxi Dress
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $52
Add-on price: $40

in peach or aqua (I want both!)

I love this. It’s the item that I want the most this month. It features a cute back, tie waist and slit. It’s made of 100% polyester. This is supposed to run true to size. I guess that is with a relaxed fit though, as these are the measurements for the chest: 36″ small, 38″ medium and 40″ large.

tie dye Collage
Step Bright Up Dress
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $62
Add-on price: $40

in magenta or yellow

This maxi is just super fun. It is also 100% polyester. It’s listed as true to size, but seems to run smaller than the last dress. Chest measurements are: 30″ small, 32″ medium and 34″ large.

denim skirt collage
Classic Denim Skirt
Available:
In the $49 tote and $149 tote
Boutique price: $35
Add-on price: $30

This is really a simple, classic skirt, but that’s what’s so great about it. It’s made of 98% cotton and 2% spandex. It’s listed as being true to size, but I think that it runs large, based on the waist measurements: 29″ small, 31″ medium and 33″ large.

crossover Collage
Draped Crossover Blouse
Available:
In the $49 tote and $149 tote
Boutique: $35
Add-on: $30

in ivory or navy

This 100% rayon, draped top just catches my eye. It features a faux wrap front. It is listed as being true to size, but sounds a bit large. The small has a chest measurement of 40″.

coverup Collage
Lounging Poolside Swim Cover
Available:
In the $149 tote
Boutique price: $48
Add-on price: $35

in pink multi, mint or navy

This is super sweet. All of the colors rock, but I’d go with the pink. This is 100% rayon. It’s said to run true to size, with a loose fit. The chest on the small measures 52″.

I really dig the cut and classic print of this suit. It runs true to size.

Paisley Print Tankini
Paisley Print Tankini
$14 per piece

I would definitely wear this. I actually have a set that is similar, so it wouldn’t be out of my comfort zone at all. The ruching on the bottoms is adorable. It runs true to size.

SHOES

Butterfly Slip-Ons
$20
sizes 5.5-10

Bobos are always comfy and easy to wear. This is definitely a fun print for the summer. They run true to size.

Silver Shell Cuff

This would look hot with sleeveless dresses and tops.

My absolute favorite/the only gay bar in my town has theme parties. They usually include performances by some fun drag queens and a drink special. A bit different from the pajama parties I had as a young girl. Well this past January they had a Pajama Party. Of course, I had to go, despite the snow.

In our current world this is probably extremely unusual but I’ve never went anywhere in my pajama pants. I’m not a department store shopper who goes like that. It’s not a slight, it’s just not me. So this was new, for me.

pj ring ed

Wrap Snap N Go Hair Rollers in Leopard Print-borrowed, leopard statement ring-gifted from a friend, Pornormance Tank-JamesDeen.com, pink, fleece cocktail print pajama pants-Dots, Abbey Dawn Rock On Leopard Boots-Just Fab (not pictured), Lulu by Lulu Guinness rain tote print bag-JC Penney (not pictured)

In deciding what to wear I almost immediately decided not to wear a full on two piece pajama set. I guessed that not many would be participating. Plus I wanted to be current and ya know the thing to do these days is a tank & pj pants. That’s what I did, with my spin.

I dug out some old/rarely worn hot pink pjs from the now closing Dots (goddamn I feel old) to pair with my James Deen tank. I was originally gonna include an alternate tank below in the Get the Look section but you probably already own one. Plus if you don’t know who James Deen is, get schooled. The info’s right on this site.

I have thick, curly, dry hair. There isn’t all that much you can do with it. Usually it’s just put a ton of product(s) in it and then leave it down. Not that night though. All of the sudden I thought of putting it up in curlers like people do when they are curling their hair over night. I don’t own any as I don’t need them. So I borrowed these super cute leopard print ones from a family member. Yes, it is supposed to look intentionally messy.

Ah, now there was a theme emerging-hot pink with leopard print accents. I was given a few costume jewelry rings from my sis on Christmas so I found the big leopard one and voila. Yeah, I also wore my Abbey Dawn leopard print boots from JustFab (affiliate link) and my daily Lulu by Lulu Guinness bag (both are no longer for sale). However I’d totally go with the little clutch below, if you’re into clutches. It’s fun.

Then I topped my often makeup free face with a ton of pink makeup. It had the side effect of making me appear younger, a win/win really. It was both over the top and flattering.

pj full

How was my night? Okay. Not many dressed up, as I expected. The friendly bartender thanked me for dressing up. I think a couple of girls said they liked my hair and pants. One guy did show up in a full on red onesie, which rocked! Most of my stories are just me and this one is no exception. I tried to rope a student from school into stopping by but she declined. The show was fun, as always. There was a sad group of people there celebrating a chick’s 21st birthday. While she was very nice, she was also trash drunk. This was a light drinking night for me and I just tried to step out of the way as she fell all over the place. Luckily there were couches, which you know helps when drunk people are falling/climbing all over the place. Also, I was worried she might hurl.

I didn’t stay all that long but hey, I love dressing up & watching the shows so whatever.

To paraphrase Elizabeth Wurtzel, my past year has been one long emergency. This was a night during one of my many setbacks. At any rate, when I’m down, ya know I drink, drink hard, drink at the local hole in the wall, within walking distance, of course.

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Men’s Cotton Jersey Tiger Graphic Tee-Target, Coquette wet look pants-EdenFantasys, Abbey Dawn Rock On leopard boots-JustFab

What happened that night? Booze, karaoke, the admiration of men who look like they stepped out of the 90’s but with tread on their tires.

RR4ed

The outfit is comfy yet sluttily daring, you’ve got the black men’s tee that’s long enough to not leave me fully exposed in my super low rise stripper-esque pants. Not really but they do zip all of the way around. If you owned those Frankie B. jeans back in the day then you will know what I’m talking about. Then I added my go to statement leopard boots. I just had to top it off with my Brian Kinney inspired cowrie shell bracelet, always appropriate when one is on the prowl.

I adore these boots, though they kill my feet (without inserts).

Recently the newest designer collaboration for Target hit shelves, 3.1 Phillip Lim. I’m not going to act like I’m in the know on this line. I simply am not. However after reading others’ blogs on the subject I had to peruse the pieces for myself. There were quite a few that caught my eye online. Luckily for me my small town rarely completely sells out of anything edgy, which means that by the time I strolled in today I was still able to check out many of the items in person.

Our local Target had both the animal print dress and skirt, which were my favorite online picks, so I knew I had to try them on. On impulse I also tried on a tiger tee and a floral dress. There were also thin, somewhat dressy tanks, sequin applique tops, shells and sweaters available, none of which interested me. The black bags in both medium and large sizes were on display as well. I like them but I bought myself a nice bag a few months ago and it’s still in excellent condition. Plus they were a bit pricey for something that don’t scream ME. For instance, my current bag has pops of hot pink throughout.

To give you an idea of sizing I typically wear a size 10-12 pant, 38C bra and a large in Junior’s (which of course varies by brand and if a line is actually Misses instead).

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Knit Dress in Animal Print $29.99

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Knit Dress in Animal Print

This dress has been in my online cart since I first saw it but I was not taken with it IRL. I did not realize that it had a very prominent ruching down one side of it. I don’t find this flattering to my body. I tried it on in a large, which fit, I would say that it’s true to size. It is 57% cotton, 38% rayon and 5% spandex. I think it looks better on me in the photos than in real life but I would not have been comfortable wearing it. I fp think that it’s at a great price point of $29.99.

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Men's Cotton Jersey Tiger Graphic Tee $19.99, 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Silky Skirt in Animal Print $29.99

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Men’s Cotton Jersey Tiger Graphic Tee $19.99, 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Silky Skirt in Animal Print $29.99

Yes, I do like these random pieces styled together. (You can’t tell from the above photos but the print of the skirt actually features a beautiful blue around the spots, not black, as it seems).

I’m a shirt addict so when I saw this tee I had to try it on. I later found out that it’s part of the men’s collection, which makes perfect sense because as I was trying it on I though, “awesome, this is super comfy and flattering like a men’s tee”. It’s just a black tee with a graphic print so it shouldn’t be anything special but once I had it on I had to have it. It’s soft (100% cotton) and fun. There was only one of these in my store, a size medium. This is typically the size men’s graphic tee that I buy when I want a flattering but somewhat looser fit. I can tell that I definitely could have worn this in a small as well.

The skirt? Well the leopard print seems to pop so much better on it than on the dress. I’m guessing that this is due to the fabric (polyester). They only had this skirt in a 4, 8 and 14. So I tried on the 14. I found it true to size. If I had a choice I would have went with it in a 12, the size I often wear bottoms in. As you can see in the photo where I have the tee pulled up, this skirt is high waisted, which I’m not crazy about as someone with a low waist to hip ratio (i.e. I often feel like I have no waist). Although the skirt feels like it’s made well the particular one that I had in my hand already had a loose thread (just putting that out there). Due to the waist, the fact that I don’t often wear skirts and I’m trying to save money I eventually passed on this skirt. Okay, I did have it in my cart while shopping for other essentials in the store but I finally, regretfully put it back. This skirt also comes in a navy blue but I’m all about the animal print.

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Shirt Dress in Floral Print $39.99

3.1 Phillip Lim for Target Shirt Dress in Floral Print $39.99

I saw one of these dresses hanging on the rack and impulsively decided to try it on. It didn’t really seem like my style but I thought, why not? It turns out that on the hanger it’s not visually interesting while on your body, it’s exactly the opposite. Unfortunately this was only left in an XL. It definitely fits true to size so I would need a large in this. It was too loose in the waist. If you can find this in your size snap it up quickly. The asymmetrical skirt combined with the shirt dress front and an Asian floral print is so unique. It’s 63% cotton, 33% nylon and 4% spandex. The detailed construction and extraordinary style make it worth the $39.99 price tag. I kind of wish I would have bought it anyway and just added a belt.

Well as Ted would say on How I Met Your Mother “the thing about New Year’s Eve is that it sucks”.

Betsey Johnson Evening Dress-eBay, Smart and Sexy bra-Walmart, Temptress by ShoeDazzle pumps

This year I was friendless (not unusual) and feeling ill. However I know from past experience that if I don’t leave my house on NYE I will be super depressed and down on myself for not trying. I live in the middle of nowhere. Most bars were closed. They do this sometimes on major holidays to avoid the sloppy drunks who may damage their bar or cause a fight. I had 2 choices-the fun gay bar in town or a bus trip to Wheeling Island Casino. The problem with the bar is that it’s in town and I hate this town. I went to Wheeling last New Year’s Eve. The big problem then was that it was incredibly overcrowded. You couldn’t even get a slot machine about halfway through the night. Plus it would have cost a lot more to take the bus trip. So I decided on the local bar.

A few days before I started feeling ill. This means that my attempts to by a dress were incredibly half assed. I was only in the stores for a few minutes, felt dizzy and left. I also never got around to buying pantyhose. So on NYE I was stumbling around my house sweaty and nauseous trying on every dress I could find. I assumed I’d go with an old slinky black dress that resembles something a ballerina would wear and jazz it up with the accessories. (BTW-how cute is this nail polish that I won from Agent Lover) I couldn’t find that. I eventually settled on this cute Betsey Johnson dress I’d scored on eBay a few months prior. It was incredibly cheap because it was used and the straps were torn. So I cut them the rest of the way off and attached them to a new, cute purple bra with some small safety pins. Yay, it worked!

I didn’t get there until almost 11:30, which was fine with me. I figured that I’d stay an hour. That way I could at least be out with people when it turned midnight, I know. I had a couple of drinks, there was a drag show, a DJ was spinning great dance music and they gave us champagne for midnight. It was pretty nice. At almost 12:30 when I was getting ready to leave some girl I went to high school (the bane of my existence-see here) with came up and started talking at me. She was with her friend who was also a classmate.

So now I had a dilemma. If I left right then (which was my plan) it would look like I was letting people run me out of there. However if I stayed I was worried I’d start knocking back shots of tequila and make an ass of myself. So instead I figured I’d get one more drink, stay another hour and then leave. Um, the drink was a Four Loko. I did enjoy watching some hot gay guys dance while I tried to finish the huge drink. Eventually I did and left.

Of course that thing hit me when I got home. It was good because I remembered to take outfit pictures. I had already removed my jewelry because it was itching me though. Oops. However it was bad because I talked to someone I always argue with and argued with them, shockers. xd. Plus I posted unintelligible things online (that I later deleted).

So I went to bed feeling like my shitty 18 year old self but at least I was covered in lotion with glitter.
