The colors that are included in this adorable purple tin are Fly Dragon Fly (a matte fiery red), Jade-o-Laden (a matte rich jade), Goldfish (a metallic bright gold), Lotus Noir (a matte blackest black) and Parasol (a matte sky blue).

aka 5 Non Sappy Things to do Alone on Valentine’s Day
Yes, that’s the original title. I decided to change the main title to make this post easier to find for people who are searching year round for some ideas for things to do alone.
The reason that I came up with this list is because of people like me. “Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean anything, it’s just to sell flowers, blah, blah, blah” is what you hear some say. Well whether or not that’s true doesn’t really matter because it’s so prevalent. So it’s bound to bother you. I mean there are a ton of silly holidays, like Talk Like a Pirate Day, but (unfortunately) people don’t really celebrate those (and I don’t get to see sexy pirates randomly walking around, boo!).
Usually I soak in moroseness on this holiday. A few years ago before I was a blogger I still blogged about my solo Valentine’s Day plans. Those were completely accurate BTW. So if I usually sit alone, drinking oversweet wine while crying over romantic dramas and generally acting pathetic I’m sure that some others do so too.
So I was thinking that I’d come up with some non-sappy things that one could do instead, if they were so inclined.
So instead of watching a sappy movie watch a reality show. I know most may say pick a horror flick but so many include a subplot in which two of the main characters end up riding into the sunset together. So instead go for a reality show, not a hooking up one (ala The Real World, Jersey Shore) but a competitive, contest oriented one. I would recommend The Rachel Zoe Project or America’s Top Model if you enjoy fashion. Face Off is great if horror movie makeup intrigues you. Dancing with the Stars is a favorite with many viewers.
2. Read a Book without a Romantic Subplot
Go for a non-fiction book in your area of interest to try to avoid romantic plot elements. I haven’t read the above but they are the type of thing I’d choose since I love movies and fashion.
Yes, others are making their lovers breakfast in bed. Well fuck them. You can make yourself a delicious dessert instead, you deserve it. I’m feeling the above. A couple of the choices are even vegan.
4. Beautify Yourself
Usually I think of grooming as a necessary evil but sometimes I take time to try to enjoy it. You could do that today. Some ideas for giving yourself a little at home spa treat are to deep condition your hair, apply a face mask, clip and polish your nails, pluck your eyebrows, take a bubble bath or use a sugar scrub. When you get done apply some lotion.
You can shake off the doldrums by getting moving, in a fun manner. I listed all of the dance exercise videos on Netflix above. I haven’t tried any yet but if you don’t like it just move on to the next. Plus I chose a few other instructional videos and some exercise games. I have this Paula Abdul workout (on VHS, har har) and it’s fun. You could just crank up some tunes and dance freestyle if none of that grabs you.
So have a fun day alone y’all! Please share any more ideas that you may have by leaving a comment.
Yes, I’ve posted an OOTD of me in this dress before but I think that pairing it with the hat gives it a different look. Speaking of the hat, I bought this during the Missoni for Target madness but there’s like never a good time to wear it. I love how it looks and it’s fun to wear. The problem is that it’s so large and floppy that I can’t really see. So I felt like that pretty much made it unsuitable for going most places, to see a movie, out to eat, shopping, etc. I wore it shopping recently anyway. As a bonus it was very windy that day so I had to keep clutching it so it wouldn’t blow off my head.

This look is pretty simple other than that. I did feel a bit like a witch in this hat dress combo. It reminded me of the song Witchy Woman when it was featured in that episode of Seinfeld when Elaine chooses it as her song. There would be a clip of it included but I can’t locate one, darn!
I’m (possibly) getting to arty with these. Ah, that’s my modeling side wanting to break through. I really need to do a new photo set soon.
When I saw the newest IFB Project, Create Your Red Carpet Look, I knew that I had to participate. When I was about 12 I wanted to be an actress. This had nothing at all to do with realizing that acting was a real job and some lucky women were getting paid to make out with Keanu Reeves.

Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, so when I was a girl and was given a beautiful dress I had visions of myself wearing it to the Oscars. In retrospect it was just a rayon dress that probably didn’t cost the original owner over $30 or $40 but to me it was a dream.
I thought of it as my Oriental Oscars Dress. Yes, Oriental was often tossed around as a fashion and beauty term for something exotic. It was a slinky gold dress with a cross front halter neckline (the halter crosses in front of the neck and around the back) and an Asian print. It didn’t flatter me at all (I have decent sized boobs) and I had nowhere to wear it but I still envision that if I were involved in the Oscars that’s what I’d wear. I’d have it custom made. It’s incredibly difficult to find a dress like this online to show you what I mean but the one below is the closest.
Of course since I’d be a nominee in this scenario brands would be throwing gorgeous, expensive pieces at me hoping that I’d incorporate them into my look. So I added these interesting pumps, a faux fur wrap, some vintage style hair combs (I’d definitely wear my unruly hair up), a bright shell bag and some expensive, coordinating earrings, a bracelet and rings. I’d pass on a necklace because of the gown’s neckline.
Last week it started snowing one night so I thought the next day would be perfect for some outdoor outfit photos.
Sofia by Sofia Vergara Shawl Collar Wrap Sweater-Kmart, C&C California tank dress-thrifted, Attention scarf-Kmart, Xhilaration leggings-Target, Bongo Women's Honor Cowboy Boot-Kmart, Baby Phat corset style wide elastic belt-Beyond the Rack, floral ring-Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival, cat ring-CTB's Closet
I had just snagged that Sofia Vergara sweater I’d been coveting. Kmart was having a huge sale and there was one left. It was a size smaller than I’d planned on getting but the only difference was it’s a bit more boobaliscious than the next size up. I also included these awesome boots that I scored at Kmart. I have a bunch of thrifted boots that I wear all of the time but I really wanted a new pair (that I didn’t have to worry about the heel popping off of). They are cowboy boots but to me they really seem like a cross between cowboy and motorcycle boots. So that makes them a bit more interesting. I’ve been wearing these often since I bought them. They’re perfect for winter.
I decided to layer my sweater over a cotton tank dress and leggings. To give all of that black a little pop I added a floral scarf. Plus I incorporated a corset style elastic belt for shaping. It came with a bubble coat that I wear often but I don’t really care for wearing belts over coats. To finish the look I added a couple of rings.
Last month I picked up a couple of great deals and I finally got around to wearing them last week. I found this cute striped top at Kmart. I loved Kristen Wiig’s striped top that she wore during the plane scene in Bridesmaids (as seen below). However I didn’t go looking for a similar top as something that boxy would not flatter my figure. I have seen similar styles offered from StyleMint but I couldn’t justify spending $30 on a tee shirt that might not even fit me well. When I saw this on the clearance rack at Kmart I thought it probably wouldn’t look great on me but why not try it on since I was there? I actually found it really cute. I felt a French vibe when I put it on. I think many associate stripes with France, not just me, (see also, the time Carrie went to France on Sex and the City, below).
Route 66 top-Kmart, Lyon Bag-ShoeDazzle, faux pearl and fabric necklace-Body Central, snake ring-Big Lots, black Bongo jeans-Kmart, Missoni for Target pumps-Target
Plus I found these adorable Missoni for Target pumps on sale at Target. They were 70% off. When the line was released I limited myself to two pieces so I passed these by even though I dug them. I considered going with some cowboy boots for this look but I really love these so I’ll do that next time.
I usually wear a bag out before I move on to the next one. So even though I bought this Lyon bag from ShoeDazzle last summer I hadn’t started using it until last week. It’s so cute. Then I added some skinny jeans, a faux pearl and fabric necklace and a snake ring. It’s a simple, casual look but I dug it.
