Seven Psychopaths Poster

Seven Psychopaths is a comedic crime thriller written and directed by Martin McDonagh (In Bruges). The cast includes Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, Christopher Walken and Tom Waits. To even lightly explain the plot is to rob you of the experience of the film. The simplest way to give you an idea of the chaos that ensues is to say that it involves a writer, psychopaths, dognapping and murder.

"I don't have a drinking problem. I just like drinking."-Marty "Of course you do, Marty. One: You're a writer. Two: You're from Ireland. It's part of your heritage. You're fucked!"-Billy

Christopher Walken in Seven Psychopaths

Earlier this year I was finally able to watch the film. I didn’t really know what to expect going in, aside from a stellar cast. I thoroughly enjoyed it but was at a loss to write a review. I merely tweeted the below.

Luckily contributor Hot Donna caught the movie this week. She has decided to share her thoughts on it with us below.

Colin Farrell, Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken in Seven Psychopaths

Seven Psychopaths is Excellente! It makes me want to rewatch Matchstick Men and Choke. I love Sam Rockwell. He’s both hilarious and nuts. It’s the perfect black comedy with action and a fitting ending. Seven Psychopaths is the best movie I’ve seen in years. I laughed and was frightened at the same time.

This Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 8PM ET this blog will be one of the places that you can catch a live online Q&A with the multi-talented Angelina Jolie. The Q&A will focus on her new film, In The Land of Blood and Honey. It is her writing and directorial debut. In the Land of Blood and Honey has been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.

Plot
In the Land of Blood and Honey’s setting is the Bosnian War that tore the Balkan region apart in the 1990s. It’s about Danijel (Goran Kostić) and Ajla (pronounced Ayla) (Zana Marjanović), two Bosnians from different sides of a brutal ethnic conflict. Danijel, a Bosnian Serb police officer, and Ajla, a Bosnian Muslim artist, are together before the war, but their relationship is changed as violence engulfs the country.

Months later, Danijel is serving under his father, General Nebojsa Vukojevich (Rade Šerbedžija), as an officer in the Bosnian Serb Army. Ajla and Danijel come face to face again when she’s taken from the apartment she and her sister, Lejla (Vanesa Glodjo), reside in by troops under Danijel’s command. Their relationship changes and their motives and connection to one another become ambiguous while their allegiances grow uncertain.

In the Land of Blood and Honey shows the physical, moral and emotional toll that war takes on individuals and the consequences that come from the lack of political will to intervene in a society stricken with conflict.

Please leave your question for Angelina as a comment.
