bttf tee
Back to the Future 88MPH Tee
by Shirt Punch, exclusively for Nerd Block
approximately $10
This is an okay tee for a great movie. Personally I would have liked something more innovative. I can’t find this particular tee online. Here’s one on Amazon that includes 88MPH. This one is more of a cosplay style. It actually has Marty’s shirt and vest printed on it. Now I would have LOVED something like this! BTTF tees seem to retail online for about $10-20. This actual shirt was made exclusively for Nerd Block from Shirt Punch. Shirt Punch is a site that has a tee for a limited amount of time. Tees on there go for $10.

kevin smith book
Tough Shit: Life Advice from a Fat, Lazy Slob Who Did Good (paperback book)
by Kevin Smith
retail $13.49
I love Kevin Smith, but I have a huge stack of books to read. Hopefully this will be entertaining when I actually get around to reading it. IMHO-Books shouldn’t be a main item in a crate because it’s been my experience that they have the lowest resale value right after you buy one, even if it’s brand new. For instance, you can buy this used for 15 cents right now on Amazon. Why do I mention resale? I will resell items that I don’t want.

ecto 1
Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Car
by Titan(s) Vinyl Figures exclusively for Nerd Block
approximately $20
This is exclusive to Nerd Block. I immediately resold on eBay for $10, because it’s not my style. It would probably have a projected retail price of around $20. This is the Funko that I refer to in the video. If I had received this, it would be proudly displayed in my home right now.

pacman mug
Pac-Man Heat Changing Mug
by Paladone Products
$10.99
This mug sells for $10.99 on Amazon. The design changes with heat, which is cool, but I most likely would not pay over $5 for it.

nerd block cards
Nerd Play Cosplayer Playing Cards
by Nerd Block
approximately $1
I’m being generous at estimating these at any type of price point as I think they are a ridiculous product.

Actual Price
almost $30

Approximate Retail Value
$55.48

This box did not live up to my expectations. It proves that even if the items are technically worth an adequate amount, if they are not worth it to you, then it’s a waste of money.

april box

Please watch my above unboxing video. In addition, you can check out the below photos, links and additional info. This month’s box was quite spectacular.

Note: Some links are Amazon affiliate links. If your cookies are cleared and you make a purchase after clicking through, then a small commission will be yielded for this site.

fantasy mag
Loot Crate April 2015 Fantasy Pin
approximately $1
Yes, that value is made up, but I just feel that based on my experience this pinbacks are usually priced around there. This is a neat addition to the set of Loot Crate pins I’m slowly starting to collect.

me dnd tee
Dungeons & Dragons T-Shirt
from dndmerch.com
approximately $12
This particular tee was manufactured by the company Wizards of the Coast. They have many Dungeons & Dragons tees for sale here, starting at $14.95. Their Zazzle store doesn’t feature the exact tee in this box though. I’m going to base the price off of dndmerch.com’s site since theirs is more accurate to the design.

dragon tie
Red & Gold Dragon Bow Tie
from Black Tie Geek
approximate value $14
Their site isn’t up yet. A tie by them that was previously featured in a Loot Crate goes for around $14 on Amazon. This is fun. Not a frequently wearable item, but cool for every once in a while.

crown
Inflateable Crown
from Loot Crate Labs
approximately $1
I’m basing the above price on buying a dozen from Amazon. This is silly and would be fun to wear around at a renaissance festival or house party when you get in your cups.

princess bride cards
The Princess Bride Playing Cards
from Albino Dragon
$14.99
The main characters from the film are prominently illustrated on this set. I don’t think a deck of cards should cost almost $15, but if you were going to buy this anyway, then these are basically almost equal to the price of the entire box. They are very nice cards though. I just wouldn’t personally pay more than $10 for them.

potter tag
Harry Potter 9 3/4 Bag Tag
from Bioworld
$11.76
In the video, I said this would probably sell for around $10, I was so close. This is a very nice, large PVC luggage tag. I’m not even a Potterhead and I appreciate how well made it is. Definitely worth the retail price.

got usb
Game of Thrones Stark Sigil USB Drive
from CustomUSB
approximately $17
This is a 4GB drive. It was manufactured exclusively for Loot Crate. The shinier 8GB drive that is from the same company retails for about $34, so I’m giving this one a value of half of that price. In the video above, I mention that USB drives typically go for around $8-$12 around here. However, this is a themed drive, so it would cost more. This is one of my favorite items in the box!

got magnets
Game of Thrones House Sigil Magnet Set
from Dark Horse
approximately $9.99
The above GOT magnet set is very similar to this one, but includes 3 more magnets. My guess at a price of these in the video was $6, so if you factor in the extra magnets in the set above, I’m probably pretty spot on. I’m going to leave it at $9.99 though, because this particular set isn’t currently listed online. I really like these. I’m not super into magnets at this point in my life, but they are definitely fun. You can’t go wrong with anything Game of Thrones related when it comes to me.

april box empty

Actual Price
$19.95

Approximate Retail Value
$81.74

I’d definitely recommend this month’s Loot Crate. Everything was up my alley. It’s a great monetary value and a great value for me because I actually like the items.

5 out of 5

Warning: This is a bit spoilery.

Luckily Facebook spies on all of us. That sounds like I’m leading up to a joke or a big brother rant, but no, really, in this case, it’s a good thing. FB must have noticed that I’ve liked Sex and the City pages in the past and alerted me to the fact that this new show is coming out. Well, when I saw the lead actress from Bunheads is the star, I jumped all over that.

You may not be aware of Bunheads, but I went through a heavy duty ballet phase last year. It was a series about a dancer from Vegas who ended up teaching ballet in a small town. The lead (Sutton Foster) is fantastic.

The fairly silly premise of Younger is about a woman in her 40s passing herself off as woman in her 20s to get a new job. It was then that I noticed that Hilary Duff costars. Plus, it’s from Darren Starr (Sex and the City). I initially thought it’d be a CW show actually, because of his now defunct the Carrie Diaries.

Liza (Sutton Foster) is a 40 year old mom whose daughter has finally grown up and gone off on her own. She’s also newly divorced. This means that she is ready to jump back into her career in publishing.

The problem? It’s been like 15 years. Those of you who have tried to get a job after any sort of gap in your resume knows this can be a problem. It doesn’t help that her interviewers are often millenials who discriminate against her, right in front of her, incredibly non-tactfully.

younger intro

I must also mention that she’s selling her home and has the WORST realtor ever! Seriously. “Either someone buys this place by next week or it goes to the bank.” WTF?

younger dude

To take her mind off of her woes, her bf (Debi Mazar, luv!) goes out for drinks with her. The totally hot young dude above (Nico Tortella) mistakes her for 26 years old. She plays along.

younger makeover montage
“Do I really wanna trade my dignity, wisdom and self respect for another chance at my 20s?”
“Yes, you do”

This leads to a wonderful MAKEOVER MONTAGE!!!. Yes, the actual idea of posing as a 26 year old so she can get her foot in the door somewhere. As Mazar says, “You were getting carded until you were 30”. Duff costars as her friend and co-worker (a bit higher up in the company and already offering her help up the line). Due to her age and well, of course, the show is set in NYC, she’s a bit blunt, “I didn’t mean to shit in your Cheerios”.

I am IN LOVE with this show so far. Yes, I know it’s just the pilot. Please, let it continue in this vein. Sutton’s boss (Miriam Shor) is a biatch, but she doesn’t deserve the age jokes from Duff, so yeah, that can be addressed. Plus Sutton is already trying to help Duff be more aggressive in her personal. Oh yeah, and there’s the whole lying to the new hottie thing. So much that can be done with this!

I basically feel like this show was created for me. I think that the best shows feel like that, highly personal. However, I am behind in life, so to say. Plus I tend to hang out with or go do activities that younger people do. So, now in my early thirties, I have been mistaken for being in my early 20s. I’ve never felt so on point with a show regarding age before. That goes for everything, pop culture, slang, mating habits, and jobs, of course.

Please let this one go far and be amazing!

The series is set to premiere on TV Land on March 31st.

loot 4

loot 3

Retail Value: $62.61
Loot Crate Price: $19.95

I can’t/won’t? estimate the cardboard game box. The total of the rest of it is definitely higher than I thought when I recorded the video. I’d never pay that much for a poster. It’s a cool design though and the tee version is a decent price. Plus I wasn’t familiar with the pricing of the toys. This is definitely a fun collection that I’d recommend.

Vanilla by Megan Hart

Vanilla
by Megan Hart
published by Harlequin
release date: March 1, 2015
provided by NetGalley

_20150216_212219

When I saw that there was a new Megan Hart novel coming out, I jumped on it. She never disappoints when it comes to romance, heartbreak and realism.

_20150216_212310

_20150216_212048

Her new book Vanilla is about Elise. Our heroine is good with numbers in her professional life and good with giving commands in her personal life. What’s great about Elise is that she isn’t a stereotype. Yes, she might like a guy to crawl at her feet sometimes but it’s not the only thing that gets her off. Elise enjoys getting kinky but she’s also not adverse to being treated softly at times.

Elise is a fully formed character. It’s not like she only focuses on her sex and/or love life. Yes, one of her hobbies is modeling for pin up photos. However she’s also a very attentive aunt. So yes, we do get to find out about her familial life and even her friendships.

_20150216_212156

_20150216_212134

You may be wondering about the sex. Yes, there are some delicious sex scenes. When I read actual “vanilla” romances I have to settle for a little biting or scratching here and there. There is some actual bdsm in these pages. There are also some more conventional, yet awesome sex scenes as well. It’s pretty multifaceted as Elise doesn’t just have one lover during the course of the book. I am going to say that as much as I loved the book, I’m not into pegging. I didn’t skip it because it’s important to the story, so I recommend reading that section even if it doesn’t do anything for you personally.

It’s interesting to see her move through her romantic liaisons and to see how different all of them are. There’s the guy she just can’t get over. I think many of us have been there. I had the person I bothered for way too long after things were obviously over. There’s the guy that she’s tries not to give her heart to, but of course that’s difficult when sex and affection are involved. Then there’s the “vanilla” guy, the one who is potentially the whole package. But, ya know, relationships aren’t just easy.

Speaking of which, this book is definitely not an easy read, which I’m used to from Hart. I did have to stop sometimes because I’d be so reminded of something that had actually happened to me that I had to wipe my eyes (yes, I cried) and regroup.

I most definitely recommend buying this book if you think you’d enjoy reading about a strong, yet human female protagonist who lives life on her own terms.
