Plus, who can forget “Bort”?

lisaswedding

6-19 Lisa’s Wedding-Lisa hears all about her future wedding arangements when she meets a gypsy at a renaissance fair. She meets her at first seemingly perfect fiance Hugh when they fight over a book at the library. Things seem to be going well until he puts down Homer. Interestingly enough this episode is set in 2010.

6-6 Treehouse of Horror 5-This episode features a Shining homage, time travel & cannibalism.

6-20 Two Dozen & One Greyhounds-Santa’s Little Helper falls in love in this 101 Dalmations inspired episode. One of the best parts is when Mr. Burns sings a song about making a coat out of the dogs “See My Vest”.

Season 7

marge chanel

7-14 Scenes from the Class Struggle in Springfield-When Marge buys a Chanel suit at a discount store she gets propelled in high society. Watch as she must “horribly mangle” her suit to attend different events. Eventually she chooses between being one of the it people & being a Simpson. Enjoyed by fashionistas everywhere.

7-4 Bart Sells His Soul-Bart sells his soul to Milhouse for $5. He realizes that everything lacks is poignancy without a soul. He also has a creepy dream that about it.

7-7 King-Size Homer-Homer gains 61lbs to go on disability so he can work at home. A lot of the fun takes place when Homer tries to gain the weight. He gets a little help from Maggie & finds out about the “window to weight gain”.

7-21 22 Short Films About Springfield-This episode was inspired by Pulp Fiction. It’s great because it features secondary characters. It created a trend with my friends about calling hamburgers “steamed hams”.

7-6 Treehouse of Horror 6-The best part of this episode is having Groundskeeper Willie go all Freddy Krueger on the school children. Homer accidently causes advertisements to come to life. Plus it features the very creative Homer in 3D sequence.

Season 8

8-9 El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer)-Marge tries to keep Homer from the annual Chili cook off. He finds out & attends anyway. After eating an extra spicy Quetzlzacatenango pepper he ends of having one strange trip.

Of course, Homer eventually comes to accept John but only when he saves his life.

8-20 The Canine Mutiny-Bart goes on a spending spree after getting a credit card in Santa’s Little Helper’s name. He ends up buying a seemingly far superior dog named Laddie. When the repo guys show up Bart surrender’s Santa’s Little Helper in favor of Laddie. 8-1 Treehouse of Horror 7-Lisa accidently creates a miniature world, Bart discovers his freaky twin Hugo, who has been living in the attic & Kang & Kodos pose as Bill Clinton & Bob Dole during the presidential election.

Season 9

9-2 The Principal & The Pauper-It turns out that Principal Skinner has been impersonating a the real Seymour Skinner for years because he thought the man had died. His real name is Armin Tamzarian. When the real Seymour shows up, he lives Armin’s life. Everyone prefers the old Skinner & he ends up taking his rightful place back at Springfield Elementary.

simpsons nyc

9-1 The City of New York Vs. Homer Simpson-This episode features Homer having one of his worst days every while in New York City. Meanwhile the rest of the Simpsons clan lives it up.

9-8 Lisa the Skeptic-Lisa convinces the town to conduct an archaeological dig where a new mall is being built. The skeleton of what looks like an angel is found & Homer capitalizes on it. In the end even Lisa starts believing in the angel but it turns out to be nothing but a publicity stunt for the new mall.

9-9 Realty Bites-In this, one of the “Marge gets a job episodes”, Marge becomes a realtor. Unfortunately she is too honest to be successful. This episode features Gil & Lionel Hutz.

9-10 Miracle on Evergreen Terrace-This is a classic Christmas episode that involves the family deceiving the entire town after Bart accidently sets fire to the families’ presents.

Season 10

simpsons edison

10-2 The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace-Homer becomes an inventor after becoming a huge fan of Thomas Edison. His inventions are not well received including an awesome make up shotgun. Bart helps him figure out that he had invented useful extra legs for his desk chair. He is overjoyed until he notices that Edison had invented the chair.

10-10 Lisa Gets an A-Lisa ends up cheating on a test after not studying due to a new video game addiction. Homer buys a lobster who he names Pinchy as a baby intending to it eat after fattening him up. He changes his mind & decides to keep Pinchy as a pet. He accidently cooks him while giving him a bath & says that Pinchy would have wanted Homer to eat all of him himself.

10-3 Bart the Mother-Bart decides to hatch & raise some baby birds after accidently shooting their mother. When they hatch they are not birds but lizards.

10-10 Viva Ned Flanders-It turns out that Ned is actually 60 years old & hasn’t really lived a day in his life. So Homer takes him to get crazy Vegas style. They get married to some waitresses during a blackout. The waitresses show up back in Springfield in a later season.

10-11 Wild Barts Can’t Be Broken-The episode features an homage to the Village of the Damned. After the children rebell against a curfew & are punished they present a radio show that tells the secrets of the adults in town.

Season 11

11-17 Bart to the Future-Bart is told about his future (it takes place in 2030) by an Indian Casino manager. Bart is shown to be a bit of a loser who has a band & lives on hand outs from the now blind Flanders (due to lasik eye surgery). Lisa is the president. Homer & Marge have an extraneous storyline that is even mentioned as being such during the show. When Bart helps Lisa his only request is that she “Legalize it”.

tomacco

11-15 E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt)-Homer becomes obsessed with challenging strangers to a duel after seeing a new Zorro movie. Most people are intimidated & do whatever Homer wants. That is until Homer meets a colonel who accepts his challenge. The family flees to grandpa’s old farm & Homer becomes a farmer. At first he doesn’t have any luck until he accidentally creates the addictive Tomacco.

11-18 Days of Wine and D’oh’ses-Barney joins AA after seeing a video of himself really drunk, not just “Professor Barney” drunk.

11-16 Pygmoelian-Moe becomes handsome & successful but of course ends up losing it all because of Homer.

11-10 Little Big Mom-While Marge is away due to an injury Lisa has to run the house. After Homer & Bart turn it into a pig sty she plays a joke on them that makes them think they have Leprosy. The end up in Hawaii receiving electric needle treatments.

Season 12

HOMR

12-9 HOMR-Homer becomes a medical guinea pig. While one of the experiments is being conducted a crayon is found lodged in Homer’s brain that’s been there since childhood when he shoved it up his nose. Once it is removed Homer is intelligent. At first he enjoys new activites & bonding with Lisa. He finds out that it’s more difficult to be smart though & has Moe put a crayon back in the previous spot.

12-18 Trilogy of Error-This episode is told from 3 different character’s perspective much like the film Go.

12-6 The Computer Wore Menace Shoes-Homer finally succumbs to the internet craze & buys a computer. He starts a site called Mr. X & posts town rumors. Later he posts ridiculous made up stories but one turns out to be true & he kidnapped & taken to “The Island”.

12-11 Worst Episode Ever-Comic Book Guy has a heart attack from his stressful job & must take time off to recover. He falls for Skinner’s mother Agnes. Bart & Milhouse successfully manage his store “The Android’s Dungeon” until Milhouse is suckered into buying a ton of copies of a new comic book by LensCrafters called Biclops.

12-1 Treehouse of Horror 11-The best segment is the Night of the Dolphin in which dolphins take over.

Life Love and the Movies

While reading through the LAMB‘s retweets I came across many bloggers participating in a super awesome blogathon. The Life, Love and the Movies blogathon is fantastic. It reminds me of those surveys we used to do on Myspace that you now see pop up on tumblr or occasionally Facebook, except it’s all about movies and how they have related to your life and your love life, specifically. Get ready to learn a lot about me.

Life

1. What was the first movie you saw in the cinema and what do you remember about that visit?

Bob Hoskins in Who Framed Roger Rabbit

I saw Who Framed Roger Rabbit when I was 5. My older brother took me because my little sister (who was 2) had to be taken to see a doctor. We don’t remember what she was sick for or anything though. I was very excited to see a movie in the theater. I still love the film BTW.

2. Are there any movies you have very strong memories of which are not because of the movie (for example something which happened at the time you were watching it)?

simpsons movie

I usually give a movie my full attention. I have two memories from the theater that come to mind but they are due to the movies themselves. I saw W. with my sister when it came out. She wasn’t going to be in town for very long so when we realized that the movie was wasting our time together (we were so bored) we walked out. That’s the only movie I’ve ever walked out of. I also remember seeing that Heath Ledger fantasy film, The Brothers Grimm. It wasn’t very good but the reason that it comes to mind is that the theater was having a glitch and the film stopped about three times. We were not amused.

I also remember a few movies that were so exciting because they were like events. Titanic was exciting as a horny 14 year old girl. It was also the first movie that I saw that had an intermission. When the Star Wars films were re-released (and later the first prequel) we went to see them during a midnight screening. Waiting in line with all of the huge Star Wars fans (as I’d become once I saw them) was exciting and the original was my first midnight screening. As an adult my most anticipated movie that my sister and I went to see at midnight was The Simpsons Movie. It was awesome to be there with all of the other Simpsons fans in their tees. There was a problem with our theater’s projector though so we had to move after getting there early and picking out prime seats. It still rocked though.

3. Which movies had a big impact on you and changed a (small) part of your view on life?

marla fight club

“slide”

One of my dad’s favorite movies is The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He was a big fan of watching it on Halloween when I was a kid. I think that helped with realizing that there were people out there who didn’t conform to social norms. As a little kid I didn’t get that it was so sexual.

Trainspotting, A Clockwork Orange and Fight Club are some movies I saw as a teenager that changed my outlook on life. They showed me that some people live outside of what society expects of us. Even though I can be materialistic I like the idea of materialism not making you happy as they mention in Trainspotting and Fight Club. A Clockwork Orange also appeals to that side of me that believes that people never fully change. Plus as an atheist I think it’s hilarious when he reads the bible for the violence.

4. Do you have any comfort movies which you return to because you are in a specific mood (for example if you are feeling down/nursing a heartbreak)?

showgirls

Showgirls is my favorite movie. If I’m in a depression it helps a little.

5. If a movie would be made about your life, what type of movie would it be and who would you like to portray you?

amanda seyfried

It would be awesome if it were a sex comedy. Since it would be about me though it would have to have my issues (not just my sometimes awesome sex life) in it. So maybe Amanda Seyfried. She’s a great actress with blonde hair (I’m not natural but I always go back to it) who has had IRL issues with anxiety and panic attacks. Plus she’s not naturally that thin so she could easily gain a little weight to look more like me. Acting wise I adore Nicole Kidman. I guess she could also do it since she can do anything.

6. Which existing movie best represents you?

the net

As someone who figured out that they have PDD-NOS (basically asperger’s, autism spectrum disorder) and was bullied a lot in school I totally relate to that part of Ben X, which sucks. I’m not a gamer though. As an adult in that regard it would be Adam, even though I am not a fan of Rose Byrne.

I don’t think any movie really represents me though. Maybe The Net? I know most don’t care for it, but I totally do. Ways Angela Bennett (Sandra Bullock) is like me: she works from home on a computer, orders pizza online, saves up money for vacations in which she dresses provocatively, drinks and sleeps with a stranger. She’s very alienated so it’s possible she suffers from a bit of social anxiety, especially since she is pretty paranoid even before everything happens. So yeah, that one.

7. If you knew you would die tomorrow, what would be the last movie you would want to see?

Showgirls

8. If you can spend your life working in the film industry, what would you be and why? (you know, director, producer, actor, cinematographer, costume designer, sound designer etc?)

I wanted to be an actor when I was young. I love clothes but I don’t think I could deal with the actors’ demands and weight concerns. I’d want to write/direct these days.

Love

1. Did you ever have a first kiss with someone while at the cinema and if so which movie was playing?

No. I’ve given hjs to a bf at the movies though.

2. What is your favorite movie relationship and why?

in her shoes

When Harry Met Sally is definitely up there. It actually sucks that they wasted years just hanging out when they could have been dating when you think about it but I end up going back to it often. A completely different example of onscreen love that I adore is Secretary. BDSM and fear of commitment! If you mean a movie in general, not just a romance, a great family dynamic is played out between the sisters in In Her Shoes. If I watch that I have to be prepared to cry and call my sister.

3. When did your love for movies start and how has it grown?

I’ve been watching movies since childhood as a result of my father being really into movies. I didn’t really think about the reality or impact of movies until I was in junior high. I think that’s when I started truly appreciating and studying them. Although when we were kids we still did really like watching movies. The local video store had a one day rental on new releases so if we loved something we had to re watch it the next morning before it went back.

4. If you have to choose one film to watch with your loved one, what would it be and why?

maximus tangled

This depends on the day and what’s happening. Tangled is awesome and family friendly though.

5. If you can choose one character from a movie to be your significant other who would it be and why?

indy apple

Either Indiana Jones or Christian from Moulin Rouge. Christian from Moulin Rouge as played by Ewan McGregor (sighs) is super sweet and I think he’d always be there for you. However Indiana Jones is fuckin’ Indiana Jones, I mean he reads, he travels and he’s played by Harrison Ford at his sexiest! Sure, he’s emotionally unavailable but I bet he’s great in the sack!

6. What was the first movie that made you fall in in love with film and cinema?

beetlejuice

I can’t really pinpoint this. The Wizard of Oz has always loomed large though. I also remember being really excited when I got to see Beetlejuice when I was 6, not just because it looked awesome but because it was rated PG!

7. How did your passion for movies turn you into a movie blogger?

I’ve been writing since I picked up a pencil (age 4). I used to write fiction but as I grew older I started writing outside of that. When I was a teen I had a psych class that forced us to keep a journal. I was at a point when I didn’t have that much going on so I would often write a short review of a movie I’d seen over the weekend on Mondays.

8. What is your favorite date from a movie?

before sunrise

This is a tough one. I’m going to go with Before Sunrise though. It’s great how they seize the moment and feel that immediate connection.

Last month when I was still in some muscle pain I passed on going out on St. Patrick’s Day because I didn’t want to be jostled. So while I was chilling I thought I would do a Netflix post on my top drinking movies. However I couldn’t find any of them aside from the titles that I had already covered in my Top Sex Comedies On Netflix Streaming post. Then I remembered that 4/20 was coming up. So potheads, rejoice! I was inspired to put this together.

As I once read on Gawker.com in reference to weed, I “don’t even know what it smells like”. But seriously my poison is booze, not grass. However I do get a lot of laughs out of pothead cinema.

Just click the movie title to be taken to it on Netflix.

Kevin Smith: Too Fat for 40 (2010) (Available Until October 1, 2013)

This is the 4th in Evening With Kevin Smith series. They are all very interesting if you like to hear him talk about film-making. This one is notable to this genre because he discusses when he started smoking marijuana heavily. While I’m not crazy about the effect that it’s had on his films there is a funny story about him being high and the police showing up at his house during this performance.

Super High Me (2007) (Available Until June 17, 2028)

This is a satire documentary starring comedian Doug Benson. It’s basically a take off of Super Size Me but with weed instead of burgers. Side note-it’s invariably one of the top watched instant films from Netflix members in West Virginia every month. I’ve lived in WV before and they are not really the satirical type so I’m guessing that it’s a good excuse for them to light up.

That 70’s Show seasons 1-8 (the full series) (Available Until August 16, 2036)

That 70’s Shows was about a group of teen friends in the ’70s. It sort of broke ground by showing the kids sit around and smoke pot in a circle on screen (inferred, you didn’t see the joint). Over the course of the seasons there were also other funny marijuana moments. Plus Tommy Chong was hilarious on there as the always drugged Leo. The episode You Can’t Hear Me Knocking (season 7, episode 13) is what I consider to be the most hilariously weeded out ep ever.

Weeds (full series) (Available Until April 01, 2018)

the brick dance

You’re probably aware that Weeds is a showtime dramedy about Nancy Botwin who is a suburban, single mother, who often dresses overtly sexually and subsists on coffee, who starts selling weed to make ends meet when her husband dies. Of course since the first season it has taken many twists and turns.

Futurama Volumes 1-5
Futurama The Movie: Bender’s Big Score (2007)

human Bender has impulse control issues

I don’t remember Futurama having much reefer content but it’s just the type of thing that someone might watch if they were indulging in it. There were some Futurama films before the series was brought back to TV. They are uneven but my favorite is below. Plus I highly recommend the creepy episode mentioned below, “You watched it, you can’t unwatch it!”.
Anthology of Interest Part 2 (volume 3)

(and you have to be in some type of altered state to enjoy this)

Family Guy (Volumes 1-8)

Seth MacFarlane‘s Family Guy definitely mentions the green on occasion. Plus the show is entirely crazy and like twice as popular in areas where people smoke a lot.

Half Baked (1998)
half baked

Basically the funniest stoner movie ever! That’s all.

Cheech & Chong
Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke (1978)
Cheech & Chong’s Next Movie (1980) (not currently available)
Cheech & Chong’s Nice Dream (1981) (not currently available)
A/k/a/ Tommy Chong (2006) (Not Currently Available)

Cheech & Chong’s Hey Watch This (2010)

I’m not a big Cheech & Chong fan. I am a fan of Tommy Chong from his work on That 70’s Show and I was forced to watch bad Cheech Marin movies while growing up but I find that Cheech & Chong is the sort of thing that you had to have been there to appreciate. I’ve watched bits and pieces of them but they didn’t do much for me. On the other hand, my father finds them hilarious. The documentary about how Pennsylvania set up Chong is very good.

Smiley Face (2007) (Not Currently Available)

“They say that true potheads stops getting the munchies after a certain point. I mean the true pothead wouldn’t even say the word munchies. I don’t know what the true pothead would say.”munchos” or “hungries” or something. At any rate, I still love to eat when I’m high. So fuck you if you’re too cool to get hungry when you’re stoned.”

Smiley Face is a completely underrated comedy by the amazing Gregg Araki. Anna Faris stars as a totally believable, out of it pothead actress who has a very eventful day. It has everything-big laughs, paranoia, munchies, police and hornyness. Plus it costars John Krasinski, Danny Masterson, John Cho and Danny Trejo. And it’s approved by President Garfield.

Dude, Where’s My Car? (2000) (Not Currently Available)

Dude, Where’s My Car is just so much over the top fun that you need to watch it, now. Back when Ashton Kutcher and Sean William Scott were just out to make you laugh in any way possible they made this. If Bill & Ted had dumber cousins it would be these guys. Keep an eye out for Hal Sparks as a cult leader, Kristy Swanson and a high dog. And if you are into seeing Kutcher and Scott kiss each other in this flick, see my previous post.

The Big Lebowski (1998) (Not Currently Available)

“Nobody calls me Lebowski. You got the wrong guy. I’m the Dude, man.”

In one of Jeff Bridges’ best roles ever he plays the weed smoking, Caucasian drinking, “The Dude”, who just finds himself in some crazy ass situations. Such is a Coen Brothers film. I’ve always wanted to attend a Lebowski Fest. Hopefully I shall in the future.

Bio-Dome (1996) (not currently available)

“And when where not saving the environment, we’re thinkin’ of you, naked, thigh deep in tofu.”

Yep, I am totally mentioning Pauly Shore again. Pauly Shore movies, as I just realized, were all fish out of water stories in which Shore was forced to interact with “normal” people, which is awesome. Back before Stephen Baldwin became a born again tool he costarred in this flick about the two of then accidentally ending up in a bio-dome. In fact, at that time, all of us were required to live in bio-domes for at least a few months…

Sike! Ha, ha, teens, you missed the best of the 90’s!

Friday (1995) (not currently available)

Plot: “Having just been canned from his job on his day off, Craig and his best friend Smokey spend the day smoking up in their South Central neighborhood while dealing with a neighborhood bully, relationship troubles, an angry drug dealer, and a lot of other odd characters.”-from IMDB.com. The film is pretty much considered a classic by many. It stars Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. I prefer Friday After Next.

The Stoned Age (1994) (Not Currently Available)

Plot: “Joe and Hubbs are a pair of rockers who are on a quest for ‘chicks’. This is the tale of their adventures over one night. “-from IMDB.com. I’ve um, been meaning to watch this movie, for years. I actually bought a video copy a few years ago but the sound was messed up. I’ve just been too busy as of late but it seems like fun.

not Netflix related but still funny

Sex and the City – Season 3 “Hot Child in the City” with that hot VJ from VH1
“…if they see billions of chicken wings they’re gonna know we were smoking the pot”

Homer is high on The Simpsons
“we have a kitchen!”

P.S. Feel free to list your favorite pot related movies or those you watch while smoking as a comment since I am definitely not an expert on this subject.

NEGLECTED AWARDS
These awards are based on my own opinions
The Full Monty-Best Picture
Why didn’t I nominate it to begin with ? I hadn’t seen it yet because I unfortunately don’t live in a social mecca. Now I wish I had, so here’s there mention.
David Spade-Best TV Actor
Now what’s my excuse ? I watched this show when it first came out, but this year I could never figure out when it was on. It’s a good thing that they added it to Must See TV Thursday

TO VOTE: simply e-mail me at dlm@hhs.net with each number & the letter you choose. (ex.4 for song & c if you choose Deadweight) There is no need for you to include the category name or title/name you choose. Numbers are sufficient. Also submit your favorite movie if you choose. All will be included on this page when I list the winners. So if you wish to know the winners bookmark this page & return April 19th or later.

RULES:
1. Do not submit multiple entries.
2. For the Your Say section you can submit any movie from 1997 that you want except for a movie that is nominated for Best Picture.
3. Titanic-Why didn’t I nominate it or anyone in it ? I’m sick of the hype about it. Don’t say that I probably didn’t even see it, I saw it twice. Yes, I think that Leonardo DiCaprio is a talented, handsome actor, but was he robbed of an oscar ? No. Personally I’ve always enjoyed his movies, but if it takes Titanic for him to win you as a fan you’re no fan of his.
4. Contest ends April 17th & results will be posted April 19th.
